I read roman's post on his relationship (great to see a delphiforums refugee on this site, BTW) and I couldn't help but notice that he disclosed the name of his S.O. If I ever have one of those, does it matter whether or not I mention her name?

No, I don't think it would be wrong to disclose the name.

I asked Annie if it was ok if I could show her pic and name before I did, hence why I called er pip, or pippin.

I don't want to give away the fact that I'm an Aspie until I get further along in a relationship -- should I get there, that is.

In that case, I don't see anything wrong with a first name or some sort of codename.

the nickname sounds like a good idea.

how would she know that you're an aspie, just by you posting her name, though?

I would deinitely get people's permission before saying anthing that would identify them here. People really should be more paranoid about protecting personal information, but unfortunately I can't think of any demonstration that doesn't blow someone's privacy here.

I would use a nickname or a codename, like I call one of my friends Faramir (though never to his face, of course!) because he reminds me of Faramir from LotR.

I never have a problem with this, because everyone's shocked, stunned, and often horrified to learn that there's only really *1* - my ex, Todd. The object of last year's brief (5 month?) dalliance is currently known as "jerkface" or "he who shall remain nameless"; he barely counts, anyway, since he's always denied that we had anything resembling a relationship. *Sigh*

I prefer not to disclose my own name, so I show the same courtesy, but I think asking permission or using a codename are the best options.

I'm not sure if the forums here are open to Google searches, but every so often I'll Google my own name or other people's, and I try to avoid contributing to my name or other peoples' names being available on net searches.

Disclosing someone else's name on a public forum without their knowledge/consent is just rude. 8O

I use Mel's name frequently on this site, but since most of you already know who she is and she uses it as her nick, its no problem. :)

Try using their First name only.

I'd offer to remedy some of your ignorance on information security and online privacy, but I don't want to make people paranoid (though they have good reason to be) and scare them away.

You make people paranoid. Wasn't it you that said you were going to start e-stalking me? Now i'm starting to think you already have.
