Hi all,

I have been sufferring from a one-ear tinnitus since last Tuesday morning when i woke up from a nightmare, I went to a couple of ESTs and found nothing wrong in audiogramme, will go to a more-specific Brain-neck-andEars specialists, and will do MRI soon.

Both ESTs said it may be chronic and genetic, since my brother has it too (he had it for one year but he really copped well). Funnily i was avoiding loud sounds and earphones ever since my brother got it.

I am having a hard time to sleep, sometimes I wake up at 2-3 am probably the ringing noise in ear is waking me up. I have started taking melantonin to better my sleep.

————-
So why this is L&D? Because it’s the forum I most frequented, and where I complained about my single status the most.

and I have three messages to tell to members here:
1)- Some women are angels, my girlfriend for instance, my mom and my sister.
-My girlfriend is sticking to me, to relieve my stress; helping me to go through the most difficult time in my life, even tho she has no moral obligation to do so; she is just doing it out of love. And yes I cried on her lap.
How ironically that I didn’t realize that before my sufferring.

2) Guys, having a girlfriend or even experience love for once, is not the most important thing in life; neither having a job or what’s expected from you as a man or as a woman; what is most important is your health and a comfy sleep at nights, all other things are luxury. Yes I am grateful to have a wonderful girlfriend but remaining single and healthy is 1000x better than ill and taken.

3) And lastely, to the ladies here: if you are one of those who are caring for an ill partner/sibling or any loved one, you are angels. And of course, I am sorry for some of the generalizations i made, because there are always exceptions even in the accurate generalizations, which often are not.

I may lessen my WP usage significantly from now on, i ll let you know of anything new regarding my condition.

My most sincere good luck and get well wishes to you. Tinnitus is awful. You have a good woman.

I've had tinnitus since 2000, so I commiserate.
Having some kind of white noise in the background while sleeping can help a lot.
Such as a radio off the station (static) or an electric fan, or there's countless sounds on YouTube like ocean waves etc.

This trains the brain not to focus on the tinnitus, which is what drives you insane, and the loudness will lessen over time.

doubt

but yeah good luck with the MRI and hope you don't have a panic attack while in there - if you are in fact, claustrophobic

I'm really sorry that you're going through this. I don't know what to say. I hope you can find some relief.

What helped your brother in the end?

I have a very mild form of tinnitus. It's just a constant hiss that I can mostly ignore. It only bothers me when I'm really not well and I'm tired in the quiet of the night. I put music on to drown it out. But it is only mild.

Imagine if you went through this alone with no gf. Then tell me it’s nit Important.

If I ever have medical emergency they won’t be no gf to show up and care for me, I’ll just be alone in hospital. My niece got in an accident and her bf drove up and stayed with her 24/7 for days sleeping in a chair next to her bed. Won’t be any such person for me.

Hope you get better.

Wish you much strength and health in this Boo. Have Tinnitus and Hyperacusis, so I understand the struggle, although everyone deals with it differently of course. Hope to see you more active soon!

Stay safe and take care.

I hope all gets better soon, Boo.

You're sort of a funny guy. And you have a great knowledge of religions and history.

I'm sorry your dealing with this Boo. I had tinnitus in one ear for about a month after I had something removed that was stuck deep in my right ear(it was probably residue from a qTip). I read there are some meds that are sometimes used to treat it including some tricyclic antidepressants which also may help with the depression & anxiety associated with suddenly having your condition. I would get the test done 1st before trying those types of meds for it thou. I wish you the best of luck & hope it gets better real soon.

Getting to your L&D part  I find my conditions including my sleep is alot better when I have a girlfriend that I'm living with.
My girlfriend does her best to try & support & help take care of me & she puts up with alot. She has issues herself & I think her issues are alot easier to deal with than mine.

I think all women are amazing. It's sad that many don't realize that they are.

I hope your tinnitus gets better. I've had mine in both ears since birth. I've never experienced true silence.

I sure know such a woman. She still doesn't quite believe how much she's helped me. She & I are both in need of lots of time and space as far as I can see, but I know any time I can find to make room for her is well spent.

Yeah women rock! My girlfriend is amazing. I know I complain about her a lot on L&D but that's because I only start a thread here when I need advice. I don't normally post here when things are going smoothly between us but really she's awesome. Not only is she stunningly hot, she also cooks all my meals, does all my housework and drives me around. She has truly enriched my life!

I feel your pain. I've been dealing with tinnitus for over 20 years. One of the suggestions that Raleigh mentioned for getting to sleep, an electric fan, is what I've used for years to get to sleep at night.

Thank you all.

I wonder if tinnitus and HS are more common among auties.
