How you know if someone really in the Army or not?

If somebody said they were in the army, I'd believe them. Why would somebody lie about that?

Unless you said something about the army first, such as "I only like guys who are in the army". Then they'd have a reason to lie.

Careful, "I am in the Army" is a common catfish scenario.

Insist on having a video call, voice and cam.

There was a guy in the show I Almost Got Away With It who pretended he was in the army so he could get checks under fake names while he found girlfriends online that he would stay with. He kept getting caught by the cops but kept going AWAOL 1ce he got on bail by finding a new woman online to stay with. He wore his dad's army uniform & used being in the army as his gimmick to get the women & to get checks & buy cars & stuff under his fake names.

To scam people, it’s a common scam on women.
Also to get free stuff. Stolen valor is a thing for a reason.
People give free stuff and money to people in military or veterans, so people wish to take advantage of it.

What if this guy really was in the Army, he didn’t put Army down in his dating profile, he thought I’m going run away from him. It doesn’t matter now, he unmatched me. But I get more guys saying they in the Army, I get them on Facebook or Instagram.

Kitty, I was in the army, but that DOESN'T make me special in any way and by extension does NOT make those men on those dating sights anything special as well.

So if you're a guy who uses dating apps, I guess it must be a good idea to wear army clothes in your profile pic if you want lots of attention.

He's probably pretending to be some sexy American solider in Iraq, serving for the democracy and liberation! .....while in fact he's some fat Nigerian cyber criminal.

Maybe it doesn't make you special, but it's something that demands respect.

Someone in a Facebook group I’m in has been scammed by people on there who say they’re in the army. I don’t know how they find her profile, but I think this could be the same sort of thing. After a while, they start asking for money.

Around a half century ago I went off to boot camp. Every day there would be a mail call where they handed out letters from home. Sometimes a guy would receive a letter from his girlfriend and those were really treasured. Sometimes you received nothing and the rest of your day was filled with gloom.

So in a sense when you are a young recruit and go to boot camp, you are cut off from the rest of the world. Almost every minute of my time was controlled. I didn't even have time to listen to the radio or watch television. I was alone and cut off from the latest news. In that situation, having someone to write to you was like a dream come true.

So if someone is in the army, has he been in for a while or does he need a lifeline back to the real world. If he is a young recruit, send him the biggest card you can find. You have a captive audience. He is looking for a lifeline. It may not lead to romance but it will definitely raise his spirits.
