Just like Bombay is now called Mumbai.

You know I'm going to keep calling them by their real names, so stop being a wind-up merchant

If a person from Beijing told you to call it Beijing, would you do it?

Frankly, I'm not so sure. When I ask people about this, they usually point out that "Beijing" is closer to the local pronunciation of the city's name, but by that standard, we ought to call Vienna Wiener, Rome Roma, Moscow Moskva, Japan Nippon and Prague Praha.

Many Indians still call it 'Bombay'. Wouldn't be completely surprised if it were a majority.

It makes me laugh that the SNP government in Scotland insists on putting up signposts in both English and Gaelic, when less than 1% of the population speaks the latter.

When I’m in their country, I try to pronounce their cities their way.

Would I be expected to say 'Noo Joisey' if I were in that part of the world?!

Sorry, only kidding!

I'd love to go to New York just to show off my cut-glass, patrician British accent. The ladies love that sort of thing over there, or so I'm told.
