I’m just being curious and nosy.

What do you usually wear on a typical first date?

And

What style of clothes or grooming would you dislike seeing your date wear?

I just wear t-shirts, jeans, Converse and my usual makeup. If I’m going to date a guy he might as well know the real me.

Business casual on first date, regular clothes on subsequent dates.

A fun dress, cardigan, and boots (my usual attire).

I am not particular about how I want a date to dress, but I'd like them to put some effort into their appearance (but not only for dates, just in general).

One of my favorite outfits (I have a few!)

Style is usually something like an everyday dress/skirt, some kind of cotton shirt (if going the skirt route) can be a t-shirt, but ladies cut and not oversized (not a unisex T, I do own those....) and some really fun shoes (I love shoes). Usually light makeup (just the eyes, I don't usually bother with much else).

I appreciate when the guy puts a little effort into his presentation.... clean hair (doesn't have to be gelled, but if it's clearly dusty and greased down, no....), if he does wear a cap it should be more stylish and/or old fashioned, not a baseball cap, please :D no hat is perfectly fine. Clean shirt, t is fine, but if it's a printed shirt it should look fairly new/intact, not faded and with a crumbly picture. Long pants are a little more classy than shorts, but it depends on the weather and locale.

One time a guy did show up for a first date with greasy slicked back hair under a baseball cap.....

That's probably a good idea.

My most recent "first date" was about 30 years ago, but if memory serves me right, I wore polished loafers (with white cotton socks), Navy blue dress slacks (with black leather belt), dark blue boxers, a light blue denim shirt, and a Navy ball cap.

Anything that would make her look like I had picked her up off a street corner in a seedy part of town.

LOL

I don’t know... Members of nudist colonies probably don’t wear a whole lot. It saves on having to pay for dry cleaning, too.

My first dates were pretty casual. Jeans or khakis and a nice fitting blouse.

As far as things I wouldn’t like are tee shirts with crude slogans or regressive political agendas (swastikas, confederate flags, maga stuff, etc) or fan tee shirts of the band Poison as well as jeans that are dirty and/or have holes in them.

I never been on a date persay but I think how I would dress would depend partly on what we were doing & what type of girl I thought she was. There's a saying when going for job interviews that goes something like "dress for the job you want" & a date is kinda similar to a job interview so I'd dress for the specif date. I wouldn't really care what my date wore as long as it wasn't something too outrageous like the person was really a guy dressed as a woman

Not saying to do this but I once wore a full business suit to a first date. I did warn the person that I was coming from a formal event and not to be surprised. While it obviously didn't work out lets just say within two hours we were alone in my apartment. Then again when I wear my suit in public I usually get a LOT of female attention probably because of my height.

Maybe I am getting old and cynical but I occasionally see young people that are obviously just starting to date and am usually shaking my head at how dirty and unkempt most of the boys (can't call them men) are. The women clearly put a bit of effort in and the boys usually had dirty hair, ripped jeans and T-shirts with wrinkles in them. At least put a nice clean and collared shirt on and WASH YOUR HAIR!

I wouldn’t wear a suit.

But at the very least I would wear chinos and a polo shirt.

And make sure the clothes are clean.

And I shower and wash my hair.

If you're attractive then you could even wear a bin bag and women will still find you attractive.

No.

If a man can’t make the effort to show up in clean clothes that match and are free of holes, I would think that his effort would be wanting in other areas as well. It certainly demonstrates that he doesn’t care that much.

Jeans, nice shirt, clean sneakers, and well groomed hair and facial hair is sufficient. Looking as though one just rolled out of bed would be a problem.

Best to wear clothes on a first date.

As long as they cover your body and are comfortable to wear, does it matter?
