I guess I was disappointed yesterday. I’m on OkCupid, I was talking to a guy saying he in the army, I loss count on how many men said they were in the army.

I'd imagine that it's probably a common excuse for scammers but that there's also a lot of authentic one. Let's face it, scammers aren't dumb enough to hide behind an excuse everyone sees through so there's gotta be some who are authentic. It actually makes me wonder how legit army guys (and girls) find someone if they're always dismissed as a scammer as soon as they say what they do for a living.

I love the question. Bottom line is we deceive ourselves into thinking we are something that we are not. These forums are great for promoting false reality - you can be whatever you want on internet. For me, the real me is a disappointment, every time I realize a little more who I really am, its painful. My life is a disappointment that seems to get more disappointing. Much better to pretend to be something I'm not. Real people are very hard to find unless you meet them in real life with all their struggles.

Be carefully - nearly all of them are scammers. If someone tells that he is in the US army or airforce then always ask him for his military email address. The server of this addresses ends with '.mil'. Once he tells a different address (eg. gmail.com aso.) or if he doesn't answers a mail to that .mil address then it's a scammer. Anybody who ask for any kind of a payment before he meets you is most likely a scammer too. :wink:
