I once had a girlfriend who I treated extremely well. She was a narcissiist and grammar nazi and eventually dumped me on Christmas for perceived flaws I had. I posted a thread about it here and suffered further abuse from grammar nazis on this forum.

Quote:
Linguistic discrimination (also called glottophobia, linguicism and languagism) is unfair treatment which is based on use of language and characteristics of speech, including first language, accent, size of vocabulary (whether the speaker uses complex and varied words), modality, and syntax.

A recognised symptom of autism is atypical use of language.

Has anyone else here been abused for displaying this symptom?

Quite clearly, I am not looking for a critique of my grammar here. Lets just make that perfectly clear in your mind before you reply. If I'm not looking for one, I shouldn't be forced to have one when I come here looking for something else. And if you do try to force me to have something that I explicitly told you I don't want, it's going to cause trouble let's put it that way. Exactly. So think about that.

The question I asked is clear, if you go off topic I will report you to the mods.

I can be pedantic at times.

I can seem to lack knowledge of pop-cultural aspects of language use.

I am not a grammar Nazi.

What makes you smile, OP?

Life isn’t about always being angry.

Yeah you're alright. But the grammar nazis always love to wind you up and then gaslight you as if their own behaviour is perfect, beyond reproach. "my spelling is correct, i am the one true represenative, justify yourself to me young child" if you think i got time for that u r wrong. I make far too much money to entertain that nonsense. Why would I even lie about being rich? I'm giving you the honest reason why I will never answer any question asking me to justify myself. Because I am already rich. So what u gunna do about it? Continue to ask me to justify myself or try another tact?

Don’t give the grammar Nazis the satisfaction of seeing your reaction, and laughing at it.

I had to learn that the hard way.

My wife’s son lives in Bromley, Southeast London.

I'm the last person who would be a gramma, or a grampa, Nazi.
Unless there is a joke in it.
Autistics are known for an unusual communication style.

On Topic:

People often don’t use good grammar in forums, anyway. The problem with lack of punctuation is not that it shows a “lack of education.” Rather, it might make the meaning of a particular sentence unclear.

I have a major problem with ADD. I have semi dyslexia, and executive functioning disorder, so writing doesn't come easy to me.
And yet, I have a recorded IQ of around 135.
Go figure.

Like I said,
I would be one of the last people who would be a grammar Nazi.
"People in glass houses" sort of thing.

Have I been abused for displaying atypical use of language?

Only by those whose own command of the English language is flawed. Even then, foreign-language speakers often come to me for clarification and translation.

My wife and her family are Asian, for example. I have assisted them in matters both legal and financial, even though my own field of expertise is electrical engineering (MSEE).

As for the abusers ... They we're likely jealous that my 'atypical' language skills caught the attention of teachers, employers, and commanding officer (I was promoted 6 time in 6 years while in the Navy, where my nickname was "Petty Officer Spock"). Being able to communicate effectively in one's own native tongue seems to be a pre-requisite for promotion and respect.

If English is not a person's first language, then that may have a lot to do with their failures, both professional and social.

Startig a new topic to continue to discuss the topic of a locked thread isn't allowed.
