Research from 3ish years ago suggests that women are happier with men who are less attractive!

(I'm not implying anything personally; I think my bf is super hot  )

The study doesn't specify the "gap" in looks. My understanding of the topic is that women are willing to compromise on looks but there is a point the "hot" girl won't cross.

Money, status and power makes average looking men more attractive to any woman. Communication, empathy and rapport are also still important for long term relationships but all of this depends on mutual attraction points.

So this study is fairly one-dimensional.

The latter seems more important to happy LTR than the prior, which is usually only good for a fling (or an unhappy LTR).

I think the article is supposed to be a bit silly.

On the contrary - its based on a large sample and is published research. But its based on one factor which is why I said its one dimensional so should be treated with caution.
The important finding is this....
They found that in instances where the man was less attractive he was likely to compensate with acts of kindness like presents, sexual favours or extra housework. They saw a pattern, in that this made women happier and feel more appreciated, therefore strengthening the relationship.

While this may appear to be good news for us average looking males, the reality is the data comes after the women have already been in a committed relationship and so can only provide this feedback at that stage. It doesn't mean hot girls are suddenly going to jump into relationships with ordinary guys, biology dictates personal preference as always.

But unfortunately, in the opposite direction, as though we had BO or something. 8O

This may not be a popular statement but I find that self-proclaimed "average" looking men who lament here that they can't get "hot" women is a glaringly, blatant, superficial double standard. Oh! Woe to us average run of the mill plain ladies! Who will take the trouble to uncover the beauty within the imperfect beast?

And everyone would be happier if we weren't obsessed with appearances and were instead at least a little interested about not being douchebags in love life...

I am frequently more turned on to “average” women than “hot” women.

“Hot” women sometimes get on my nerves.

I’ve seen pictures of Sly. He is at least average-looking. And he’s 10 inches taller than I am. He can grow a better beard than I can.

I have said this relatively recently.
I got a nasty response when I suggested some people are too "Picky". 8O

Blame the evolutionary process. <shrug>
