I am 31 still a virgin and never had a girlfriend as I have mentioned before.

Some people have said in the past that I bear a resemblance to soccer player Lionel Messi. I talked about this with my mom and she said “looking like Messi is a good thing because he’s a got a fabulous looking wife”

Do you agree that what my mom said is useless and not a compliment since if Messi was a regular guy who wasn’t famous with loads of money he would not have such a great looking wife?

Antonella Rocuzzo is his wife. She looks just like my daughter but the difference is we are just common people. Messi and his wife are the elites just like you described. It doesn't matter who you look like or even if you're strikingly good looking, life is unfair in that money and social connections get you places other than good intentions and values. Does your mom actually think that Rocuzzo is just some beautiful girl that snagged a soccer player? Nope. It's the other way around. Rocuzzo is "somebody" or "somebody's" daughter. She wanted Messi and she got him. He's no fool - he went. He'll be free when she gets good and tired of him. The tabloids will make tons of money on that whole family whether bad news is true or not. Women enter modeling, professional cheerleading, or high-end prostitution in order to climb the social scale. Men enter professional sports or politics - all this stuff comes in packages. A commoner can't just enter that elitist circle. One needs a "talent" - it's much more than looks.

If Messi was a regular guy, he could still have a beautiful, regular-girl wife but neither one would have celebrity status. There would be no tabloids, no magazines, etc... If you were to stand next to my daughter, it would look just like Messi and his wife but you two are just common, everyday people. No cameras flashing, no yachts...just work, going to the cinema, eating at restaurants, and supermarket shopping, etc...

Did a bit more research and apparently Messi and his wife were childhood friends.

Maybe one day myself I will be ready to have a girlfriend but not now I have to many other things to focus on in my life at the moment. I think I am to low functioning really to have a romantic relationship.

Did you know Messi himself was diagnosed with aspergers but he probably does not have it as bad as I do.

At least your mother is giving you advice, and offering compliments....NOT useless.

Many times parents fail to understand some things. Dont expect reliable reaction / answers from parents, especially if you know they have given you wrong answers on other subjects before.

Honestly, at your age asking for advice from parents might appear like an exaggerated situation. I understand people here aren't 100% mentally well, and some have more serious forms of autism/asperger, but 31 is old enough to understand basic things on your own, even if you're autistic.

But, everyone has their own situation they're in and the type of problems they might have, so it can be varied and not limited to what I stated. I personally think you should go more into a direction of finding things out by yourself, or using someone else to ask for advice/help, not parents. Also, I dont know how it is in your country but in my country, some people here make fun of the situation if they realize you're attached to your parents too much at this age.

How is her saying "James, looking like Messi is a good thing because he’s a got a fabulous looking wife” considered advice :?: I guess it's a compliment but I think comparing James to Messi when talking about James being single might be kinda a slap in the face to him. It's kinda like saying "James, since you look like Messi & he has a hot wife, you should currently have a hot wife as well".

Growing up I've been compared to various disabled people who can do amazing stuff & others were wondering why I was not like them. It's like expecting all autistics to be great a math because Rain Man was or expecting all of us to be making crazy money in the STEM field because Bill Gates is/was & then people thinking we're losers because we can not live up to those stereotypes/expectations.

At least James is considered good-looking enough....that’s what I’m saying.

If somebody told me I looked like some sports figure, I would feel complimented. That’s never happened to me. I was never told by my mother that I’m manly-looking.

It would be better, though, if his mother offered more constructive advice.

Complimenting another person and/or their spouse is useless to you because such a compliment is an attempt to divert your attention away from yourself.

She apparently succeeded.

I feel like your mother, maybe in a somewhat misguided way, wanted to boost your confidence.
