It was nice and all----but it wasn't a transcendent moment.

I thought I would magically turn into a man----that didn't happen! I remained an adolescent for a long time afterwards.

I'd prefer partners to have a couple partners in their past, but also to not have had sex with tons of people. The former is open to discussion with a partner. The latter becomes an issue as I get older & hang out with more poly people. I also look for people that prefer steady partners. And I'm beginning to run into a number of men around my age that refuse to get any std testing.

Society blows sex out of all proportion.
Yes, pun intended.
Not a good one, but, meh. ;)

I felt disappointment. Like, so it's that? All that songs and desire for this? Not worth it.
It might be my personal sexual orientation but I find really a lot about love - that interpersonal connection and its dynamics - while sex is just a physiological urge within it.

Agreed.
Sex is a great entre in various physical ways, but it is the connection that is the main course in a relationship. 8)

Does this poll take age into consideration? There's a world of difference between being a virgin at 18 or 25 and still being a virgin at 40.

If I was on a date with a woman my age and I found out she's a virgin, I would certainly see that as a red flag. Surely there's a reason why other men have avoided her for this long, right?

No, it probably means you aren't getting laid with her anytime soon, if ever. It means she hasn't been putting out. Frankly there are always men that would screw anything. Pretty much any woman can be sexually active if she wants it.

Plenty of women are unable to be sexually active even if they are willing, but they are invisible to the men who might potentially be their partners.

Perhaps you mean "any woman" not "anything".

Barring a physical injury or severe mental problems that keeps them institutionalized, this is patently false.

It might mean they’re saving themselves for the “right person.”

Insofar as this thread was originally aimed at women, I am wondering does any woman care to step forward and either defend or refute this assertion?

That doesn't help my case any better. I'm fine having such women as friends, but if she's ace or otherwise not comfortable with sex then she would not make a desirable partner for me.

If someone has never found a right person by 40, that itself is a red flag.

To be fair, both takes are true. There's men who would screw any woman, there's men who would screw anything.
