How do you know if they are real?

The best way to know is to meet them in person.

Many men on dating sites are "real"---but many are not.

Make sure you proceed with caution on these dating sites. If you agree to meet for a date, don't meet in anybody's home, or your home. Meet in a restaurant or some similar place.

The last guy I talked to was a scam artist, he asked for money for his daughter that was very ill, I said no, he asked don’t you love me? LOL, we only talked for 4 days. I’m on two dating apps, OkCupid & Badoo, Badoo verify people pictures.

You never really specified whether or not you're trying to meet people in person or through long-distance.

Assuming they're long-distance and you don't have the ability to meet them within a month of first talking to them, the biggest way to tell if someone is real is through a video call. Someone who is fake will refuse or make up excuses to why they can't video call you for obvious reasons.

The biggest way to deter people who are just looking for money is to casually bring up that you're not interested in sending anybody any money early on when you're talking to them. This tells people who's only intention is to get money from you to not waste their time with you.

Thirdly, don't bring up wealth and try not to bring up subjects that indicate that you have a lot of money. For instance, you probably don't want to tell your dates that you're a doctor early on, or you probably shouldn't bring up the fact that you drive a lambo and live in a mansion, because this will only attract the men who a. only want you for your money, or b. people who try to scam you for your money. So basically, try not to look rich and if you are rich, don't flaunt it.

A dating site that needs to be paid for seems to be much better than the free ones. Having to pay filters out a lot of time wasters. Nobody pays to be a time waster.

Poke them with a stick.

The real ones will say, "Hey!  Stop poking me with a stick!"

The fake ones will make animal noises.

Some verification mechanisms aren't all that great. After verifying my picure on an app it posted that picture online for everyone to see, download, etc. Plus i have met con artists who charm people and make them prove they are real by sending pics that they want for years on end, saying they just cant believe the person is real. And you could just snap someone elses picture rather than your face and the scanner would prolly not know.

The sureway to find out without meeting is live cam with questions and make sure they answer more than yes/no and their lips are moving, its not just a pre recorded video. Some con artists use their real details though. So for that it takes more than just meeting them.
