The first woman and man on the planet had been homosexual?

Maybe Neanderthals or another species of hominids would’ve flourished.

Do you think though that they might have just said "F*ck it we have a job to do" and got on with the task?

Why would they think they have a job to do?

Well I don't know. I wasn't there. That's why I'm asking.

Humanity would have been doomed from the start. That sounds discriminatory but that isn't the intention - it would be the case, most likely.

I was seeing it from a child like perspective at the time I made the thread.

There was no malicious intent meant.

How would they know they were homosexual if they were the only man and woman? Plus, if they didn’t like each other, they wouldn’t have sex, and the human race would have been a nonstarter

This. ^

By definition neither of them could be gay because no one of the same sex exists in this scenario. Unless you're counting Neanderthals and such. Say, the first Homosapiens end up in gay relationships with Neanderthals. Is that where this is going?

If so, it would be a question as to why that happened. Did we evolve differently? Some animals reproduce asexually. There is a type of lizard, all female, that produce asexually. Naturally their offspring is female.

Humans reproduce sexually as we have a greater need for genetic diversity. 'What if we evolved differently and took an asexual approach to reproduction?' would be an interesting question. I suppose if that happened, we'd likely be a single sex animal.

Unless we were sexually fluid like some animals. Clownfish, for example, have been known to physically change sex depending on environment. They adapt. Males will become female if there is a need for a female.

Now that's an interesting question - 'what if humans had evolved to be sexually fluid instead?'

I actually read a comic with that premise once. In this world, humans had developed to be sexually fluid and were able to shapeshift at will. In that case, I suppose they could reproduce in a male / female state and then potentially change to male / male or female / female. However, would it be something they could control or would it be something that happens due to physiological reasons outside of their control?

Shapeshifting, sexually fluid humans does sound like an interesting concept, Lost_dragon. :)

Yes now that what I'm talking about! Shape-shifting gender fluid humans. Able to reproduce wih themselves.

I think this is the future.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the comic is called Fluidum. It's available to read on Webtoon.

However, I will say that it's not for everyone. It covers topics such as parental abuse, generational trauma, near-death experiences, kidnapping and violent death.

The comic is set in a universe where everyone has a copy of themselves which they can switch control to and they keep these copies in containers. Then, on their 21st birthday, they have to choose which body they want to keep as the other body ceases to exist.

---

I don't know any stories about human society where people have just one body that can shapeshift, but I would find such a story to be an interesting read. So if anyone knows any then let me know.
