A bizzare dating experience that I remember
Back when I was 28, I agreed to go out with someone who I met at a mass transit station. However, I decided to go on a double date with someone else who was engaged at the time. I also decided rather than having him pick me up, I felt it was better to meet him at a public place.
During the dinner, he displayed more than one red flag.
1. He said several things that didn't add up
A. For instance, he said that he backpacked through Europe for 10 years
B. He lived in New York for another x amount of years
2. He was extremely vague with his details
A. He didn't provide any details about what there way to do any see in either place.
B. He talked about a restaurant in New York
3. He could not get his story straight about where he went to college
4. He attempted to leave by picking up his jacket by giving us the excuse that he was going to use the bathroom
5. He took more than once to use the phone
6. Later on when he and I sat down to talk for coffee, I was told that he was just looking to make some new friends since he moved to the area
7. When everyone was leaving, he told the other couple "Thanks for the chaparones"
I really don't understand why people lie. It's way more effective (and ethical) to just be honest.
If someone doesn't like you for who you are, you can move on from them faster. And if they do like you for who you are, you can build an emotional connection with them faster.
Long-term, lies will catch up to you. But even short-term, being honest is more effective too.
He lied to me because he most likely wanted to impress me.
Anyway, when we first departed that evening, I said yes to us being friends. Then when I woke up the next morning, I decided that I didn't want to see him again.
He tried to call me a few weeks later but I didn't answer the phone at all. After that, I never heard from him again and I was completely fine with it.
