Out of interest.
I was thinking about my poor eye contact today and i had a sudden thought if i had a girlfriend which i never have done i do want one like i might be able to give her eye contact or better eye contact that i can normally give people because she is the one love.
Do those of you with Aspergers that have girlfriends find a difference with your eye contact when you are speaking to your girlfriend or not??

Well, there was this one guy that I liked who I was friends with and he knew about my problem with eye contact. He tried to make me stare him in the eye because I guess he didn't like me not looking right at him. I tried the staring thing for a couple of seconds but then my eyes would just start to wander. Yeah, I couldn't do it even though I liked him a lot.

That's a very difficult part of interacting with NT's for me. That, and difficulty with controlling, or perhaps just unconsiously paying too much attention to, my facial expression.

I make eye contact with a few people - my mother, brother and a couple of close friends. I think it is to do with trust, and feeling comfortable with someone. If you felt very comfortable with your girlfriend, you might make more eye contact with her than with other people.

You could do it to give her a good feeling about the situation. I'm not saying you have to or anything. But it's something I did for my GF because it gave her a nice feeling.

I can't really say who I make eye contact with or not, I don't pay too much attention to it. As such I guess I don't meet most eyes. But if I need to actively keep my eyes focused on someone else's I don't have any large problems. But my eyes do tend to wander after a while naturally.

[nb., undx'd] My wife was the one who pointed out my bad eye contact. It's probably a little better with her than most others, but not alot. I do make a point of forcing myself to make eye contact with her, especially when I'm saying nice things (I love you etc.) :).

I make natural eye contact with small children OK (under-4/5). Possibly a social anxiety thing?

Eyes are one of my favorite parts of the human body, and the eyes of a child can tell you so much you didn't even know.

I've always had problems with looking at girls I am close with in the eyes and they say "What?" as if I shouldn't be looking at them in the eyes unless I am talking to them, but when we are having a conversation, it seems quite natural unlike when I am speaking to other people and feel awkward.
