I noticed that tis happened to me many many many ....and MANY times in IRC chat rooms:
I am having a good and clean pvt conversation with girl till I am asked about where am I from and ....from the moment I tell her where I am from she'll never reply again ....like if she went into a coma.

Is my location that scary?

you have to be grateful , if Lebanon was that scary with all that freedom, what would they think of Egypt?

I have been called a terrorist more than once :D

oh and look, they might just want someone who is close to them in distance so they can interact with in person, so don't worry about it

I do not think they see that much difference between Lebanon and Egypt.

I think unfortunately most people know little about the middle east and levant. You have to expect that some people to tar everyone with the same brush if you come from a particular region on the other side of the world.

all in the middle east, lol
but Lebanon is more civilized than the other countries in the middle east, as it has many religions and denominations living together, every banned book in the arab world, you would find it in Lebanon, in comparing it to Egypt, the country of one religion and one denomination, it's horrible here actually

I would suppose it depends on what the other person knows about your countries.

Here in America, I believe the general population does not have an accurate appreciation of your countries and cultures.

The popular news.
Lebanon... the predominant theme with pictures and stories that we see here shows a country in strife, rubble, and third-world living conditions. I honestly believe that there are people who do not know any better because of the news. Have you ever had someone say they were amazed you even had internet over there?

Egypt... often portrayed as a male-dominated culture that reacts quite violently to infractions of any law - religious or social.
I know people here think that Egypt is beheading people and chopping off their hands every day. Egypt is also talked about often as a third-world type country regarding living conditions, technical ability/knowledge, etc.
Woman are totally suppressed and struggle to obtain education.

These are what I believe the general population here thinks... those who take no interest in countries outside or our Western culture or take militant stances on policy and culture in other countries.
It's much easier to attack someone different when you don't take the time or trouble to understand who you are talking to/about.

This may be WAY off, but it could be one factor.

BUT... like Nagy said... it may be that the distance is the problem and nothing more.

I've enjoyed your posts here and have seen nothing that would say to me you are not worth someone's time to talk with.

Hope that made sense

I don't know when it was changed from middle east to north Africa, but I started to notice it on most websites, they rank Egypt as North Africa

ouch, this hurts
yes we have some issues with fanatic fundamentalists but there is no beheading and chopping, and women have good education now (in general) equally to men, these media must be updated

Yes you ...I love Stargate series ..used to watch them on TVLand but I preferred the Stargate SG1's characters much more than Atlantis. They were more interesting especially the Daniel Jackson character ...Michael Shanks is an under-rated great actor indeed.

What is an IRC chat room? Is that if you click on "Chat" at the top of the Wrong Planet page?

The average American doesn't think past what TV feeds them, its rather pathetic.

And the media only displays the bad things of any place since thats what draws ratings.

My maternal grandmother's sister was married to a Lebanese man and he made the most delicious tabule and baba ganush (i know Im not spelling that right hehe) and quibde.
