I've only ever had one girlfriend and no friends in my adult years but I'm not too bothered. I hold hope that some day a Breakfast Club situation will happen to all of us. In 1980s classic teen movie Breakfast Club a group of disparate teenagers - a jock, a crazy goth, a nerd, a juvenile delinquent and a spoilt brat - are locked in detention hall together on a Saturday. Forced to be in each other's company, things begin acromoniously but gradually everyone starts getting along better.

These cliques we remember from high school occur in all stages of life it seems. I think they form because we don't all share some common bonding. Nevertheless as The Breakfast Club highlights there are times when people come together, often in the most unexpected ways. No man is an island. Whether it's friends or love I think in the end we'll all meet others. The madness of people splitting off into warring factions and not all being civilized with each other can only last for so long until we need to heal.

So if you're feeling down occasionally bear in mind that things will change as much in the future as they have in the days that have already passed.

Thank you, ladies and gents. Thank you. 8)

I understand what you're saying. Cliques always made me uncomfortable because I couldn't relate to any of them. I relished situations that brought together people from different cliques, like in The Breakfast Club. This was because I liked a lot of my classmates on an individual basis but couldn't stand the way the cliques acted as groups.

Adult life is better. Socially, there are more options. It's easier to avoid situations that promote cliques. I have a few friends. They're all very different. I rarely socialize with more than one person at a time.

Oooh! I used to totally relate to the Ally Sheedy Character...'cept without the makeover at the end...

While my High School did have cliques, I hung out with a truely nonconformist group of kids of all walks of life....that is...when I was not hiding in the library...

We had goths..metal heads...rednecks, nerdy introverts...dorky extroverts, cheerleaders and all goofy non-catagorizable levels in-between....it was kinda fun.

Where's the love for that guy huh? I just have to say boo to the Breakfast Club...

Uncle Buck... now there's a John Hughes movie I actually enjoy. Let's overanalyze the love story in that. :D
