i've been seeing this girl a lot lately, and i mentioned to her i'm a high functioning autistic (i have hyperlexia so i'm not technically an aspie, but i'm pretty close). i don't mention it to many people cause i worry they're going to treat me different, but i have more than a few quirks and i liked her enough that she deserved some explanation, lest she thinks i'm just weird.

i felt awkward about it, but something strange happened...she thinks all my quirks from HFA are CUTE.

check this out. these are quotes from her livejournal:

"I've been seeing someone. A high functioning autistic. Seriously. Which means he has little quirks that take some time getting used to. I find most of them cute. Like when he sets his mind to something it takes him a little to get off of it. We went and saw Iron Man and the chair had a squeak. He was like a kid in the candy store playing with the seat. He stopped by the time the movie started but he's like that with almost anything. And almost everything. I'll certainly miss him over the summer. Oh, and he talks as much as I do *blush*"

"my relationship is going well. he's a little clingy and needy and calls me every day (multiple times) but I respect and understand it's because of his brain makeup being a high-functioning autistic. Like I said, I find most of it downright adorable. In fact, I'm supposed to see him tomorrow for a long day of fun and hanging out before I'm doomed to packing."

...i'm as shocked as you are.

i post these for two reasons. one, it's got me super jazzed (yea sorry i'm bragging, but wouldn't you be?)

two, i know it's not easy finding somebody when you're a HFA. hell, it's hard to find someone even if you're not, but despite our conditions we all feel very deeply and we seem to be hurt just that much more when things don't work out for us.

just wanna say that there's hope. there's somebody for everyone.

Well thank you buddy for your advice...

About the clingy part though, I think you might be able to control that, or at least make only once a day instead of multiple times. I don't think that's really an Aspie trait - more like a trait that everybody gets one time or another.

Yes, I remember having to be told what the rules are for how often to call someone, etc. Once I knew the rules, I followed them to the letter ever since!

Anyway, congrats!

Awwwww....

I find Aspie (and maybe HFA) traits charming, but then, again, I'm on the spectrum too. But it is so relaxing to know that you are spending time with someone who thinks somewhat similarly to you.
