Defining paragraph...

Quote:
Though connecting with others will be a lifelong struggle, Lindsey and Dave have formed a bond that defies their autism. They may sometimes come across as blunt to strangers, but speaking their own minds clearly and directly—just as they did when they moved in together—has helped their relationship. There’s none of the “if you have to even ask what’s wrong, then forget it” passive-aggressiveness many couples experience, no expectation of mind reading. “People like Lindsey and Dave put so much thought and dedication into making their relationship work,” says Diane Twachtman-Cullen, Ph.D., a speech-language expert who specializes in autism and knows the couple well. “Frankly, we could all take a page from their playbook.”

Good luck to them, I hope that they are happy together. I also hope that the press give them some privacy.

Always bear in mind that just becuase some one has AS, HFA, LFA, XYZ, flat feet or whatever else should not give strangers and the press a license to ask personal questions. I think it is our duty to ourselves to resist any attempt to turn us into "zoo animals" which are paraded in front of the general public.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

Printed this one off too!

And I'm going to mail a copy to someone in Washington I've known virtually all of my life who has--at the very least--many highly characteristic Aspie traits. Always has had, going all the way back to when he was a toddler. I think it's time to raise the possibility with him. It sure would answer many questions that he and I have both had "forever."

Thank you.

Yeah that is a very good statement. I have met Diane Twachtman-Cullen in person back 1 month after my son was diagnosed at a workshop where I heard her speak. :)

They must be in dire need of people to hire someone who can barely function socially. Ok, they can do the math needed for their educations, but can the put it into a social context?
If you can't function socially properly, it's no use in getting an education, in my opinion.

In my opinion, students with AS should be put to work at age 14. I wish I was.

Again, I doubt that a lot of low socially functioning people with Asperger's can function in a workplace.
