I tend to be kind of aloof in my social interactions, whether it's at work or with my relatives. I typically don't get very angry or annoyed, or I at least don't display it even when I'm feeling it, but conversely I also don't get particularly overjoyed when there's good things going on. I think this may have something to do with my preference to keep my emotions under control, so to speak. I will only display more intense emotions to the outside world when I feel stimulated enough, whether positively or negatively. I'll display more obvious gladness when I'm with a person I feel very comfortable with. Needless to say, this doesn't happen too often.

The result is that people at work as well as my relatives, etc. experience me as someone with a dampened emotional affect. This in turn causes people around me that I socially interact with, to not really care on way or another about how they deal with me on an emotional level; their emotional investment in me is not as great as with some other members of the group, because I don't 'give as good as I get'.

Has anyone else ever experienced floating in this kind of 'middle region' where people neither have fun with you nor fight with you, because you simply don't register on their emotional radars?

i can relate to this. i have a dampened emotional affect. most of the time i don't show any emotion at all. When i do show emotions, the expressions are very subtle.
This is a common aspie trait.

I understand what you mean. The first thing that strikes me is how well you are able to analyse and explain this! :!:

Perhaps talking to someone you trust about any issues around this is a good start if this is a problem, someone who can explain to others you know that, while you may not display emotion, you do feel it, but shows in a different way. I think that may be what people need to understand if you're saying this is a problem.
