Communications style idiosyncrasies
Do you guys & girls sometimes talk in quotes? I have always done this since I was a little kid. Like I will copy phrases from other people, TV, song lyrics, newspapers, whatever when I talk. Usually it's pretty relevant but sometimes it's not quite exactly the best way to use the phrase, I just can't help myself because it sort of pops up in my mind and I can't help but use it. It's like, using the quote "feels good" even though no one knows I am using words from someone else.
The other thing that I think is sort of weird is when I see someone make a grammatical mistake I have a tendency to copy it later on. And then when I am tired or feeling casual it comes out more. Usually I copy people who I am kind of close to and who have been nice to me, I guess.
(I mumble a lot and sometimes have monotone or sing-song speech but sometimes I talk normally. But when I hear myself on a recording/video, unless I am super focused on talking clearly, I usually talk way too fast and barely enunciate anything.)
I do it constantly, especially with songs. Like I'm just an amalgam of references.
I do the copying thing as well. I figure it's my way of trying to be normal and fit in with people but it backfires most times.
I say, "I'll be back..." all the time when I leave somewhere. Like it's not even funny to say thinking about it, but it's something to say I guess.
