I met a neighbor and and at the time it was fun to talk but now I regret it. Seems like everytime I make an acquaintance these neurotypicals think its ok to always want to talk to me when they see me. It's like yeah I want to talk to people sometimes but I wish I could be invisible when I don't want to socialize and reappear when I do.

I know the feeling.

Hmm, maybe you could just answer them shortly and then say you're in a hurry (even if you aren't; a small white lie) and then leave? Of course, this doesn't work if you just want to spend time in your yard and your neighbor comes over since you'd have to leave what you were doing then, plus they might realize you're not really busy, but it should work in some cases.

Perhaps a better excuse, if you're not genuinely in a hurry, might be simply that you are tired and not up to much socializing at the moment, but you look forward to talking to them again when you are feeling better.

hopefully your body language might tell the neighbour that you dont want to socialise as nts are supposed to be so vigilant and knowing with nonverbal cues?

“ Not feeling well, this is not a good time .” Said as one sentence, it has served me well to dissuade NT interaction .

Simple response , not feeling well to talk , is easily understood , and not a good time …. Well it is probably not a good time for you to talk .Anyhow .

These days especially if a stranger tries to interact with me . Am usually excusing myself from the area . And not waiting for a response, and just moving on , usually gets the point across .
