Going to BBQ tonight at 7. There is this one guy in my social group I don't always get along with.

I texted him earlier saying I am going to BBQ later on and he texted me back saying "Waa you invited?"

My dad saw the text message from.him and he said "What an a**hole saying that to you"

Would you agree that was a rude text from him or not?

Hi:

It does not sound like you were rude. Rather, it sounds like you attempted to put the ball in his court by reaching out and doing the best that you could.

It's a tough one this mate

I would speak to someone like that as banter

If I didn't like a person I don't think I'd waste my time sending a message at all idk

But you know him better than I do

It sounds to me as if the other person was rude by saying "was you invited"? It seems to imply that you might be unwelcome at the BBQ.

Yes, I agree with your dad. Seems there's a good reason you don't get along with this one guy from your social group. It sounds like "negging", when someone puts you down to undermine your confidence. Who needs a 'friend' like that?

With the context you've provided, yes, he is being extremely rude.
Though, I wonder why you're even bothering to inform somebody you don't like talking to about your plans. Even if he was the one to ask what plans you have tonight you could just tell him it's none of his business.
The only situation I can think of where his question would not be rude is if it's at his home or he's hosting the event. If it's his event and he didn't invite you then you're gatecrashing and you would be the one being rude.
