No one said anything about "divining truth." There's a difference between getting the truth and detecting deception. As has been mentioned in this thread, the techniques only identify possible deception. Could there be other reasons for the gestures and expressions that have been described? Yes. Are these techniques foolproof? No. However, they give an interviewer (not necessarily a detective or investigator) tools that can be used to point him/her in the right direction. A skilled interviewer will know how to ask the right follow-up questions. A skilled interviewer will also know how to deal with different personality types, including sociopaths.

Again, we're not talking about "truth." We're talking about being able to tell, with a certain degree of accuracy, whether or not someone is being deceptive. If you're referring to the techniques as being "easy," then you're mistaken. It takes quite a bit of effort to learn what signs to look for, how to interpret them, how to ask the proper follow-up questions, and then be able to put it all together.
