Thought that life wasn't going as smoothly as it could have, but it was only recently that it was pointed out to me that I pull extreme faces, stand funny(very flexible limbs that apparently lock oddly when at rest) and sometimes, go high pitched and people don't understand me. It's really upsetting, as they're such elementary things, and apparently I can't even manage to talk properly, despite having a decent vocabulary.

Yep - I do most of the above. If you saw a photo with me and other people in it and were asked to spot the Aspie, it would take you all of 2 seconds to identify me. The only part of the above I don't do is the pulling of funny faces. I am quite the opposite in the regard in that I have very little - if any - facial expression. However, most facial expressions I have seem to confuse other people. My speech is always monotonal but I do have a tendancy to stutter which makes me appear very erratic.

I grimace a lot. Part tourette's, part me really flinching at every misstep I come across. But that's what I notice and apart from that, I'm quite oblivious as to what I am doing wrong.

I have a really odd standing posture, partly due to hyperflexibility.

I do the gurning/pulling faces thing, wasn't conscious of it until recently when I saw pictures of myself, very uncomfortable with it now. People have pointed out that I walk with my forearms at a right angle from my body - as if I should be holding a tray - not sure why that is. I also hunch quite noticably. I'm not aware of any of these things at the time, but hate seeing pictures of myself with others as you can instantly see the body language differences and I look like a freak.

Does anyone here lean on things a lot--especially when anxious in public? I notice that I do this.

In public I usually strive for better posture. At home or among those around whom I'm comfortable, my body language is more languid and unusual. I generally sit on chairs with both my butt and heels (barefoot, since I only put on shoes if I'm going somewhere), even if I'm eating. A few men have commented on my wrists, that I tend to hold them loosely (hinting at 'gayness', although I have no hangups about homosexuality) one way or another. On couches I also sit somewhat "crumpled up", vaguely in the fetal position, although I'm also fond of crossing legs.

Ahh mate, I have been in this sort of situation for a while now. I have always seemed to talk in a rather monotone way, which even embarasses myself when I hear it in a recording. I can never seem to sit or stand straight unless I really put the effort in, but even when I can hold myself upright I start to slouch again. I guess I feel comfortable that way.
I'm sure you've noticed how people always fidget and tap their fingers or their feet when they're sitting down. Instead of this I change my body position often, as I become uncomfortable quickly in the position that I am in; I can never seem to stay one way for too long.

I had exaggerated expressions as a kid.

Sometimes I make my eyebrows go up, but you would have to know me for a long time before you start to notice

I smile at all the worst times! It's a nervous habit, especially when someone is mad at or scolding me. I too lean on things when I'm nervous....which is almost always when I'm in public :?

Yup. It takes a conscious effort not to look extremely weird.

I often get told I speak too quietly and people used to say I spoke too quickly aswell although I don't think I do that as much now as when I was a kid.
As some others have also said on this thread, I often laugh or smile when I can be feeling quite upset; an extreme version of this happened recently when I hurt myself somehow and I was saying it was painful and my Dad asked me why I was laughing. I find this really frustrating because I feel like I can't show poeple how I really feel a lot of the time and some things I am really serious about are not taken so.

Also I quite often chew the inside of my mouth (I guess this is some kind of stim) and therefore apparently it looks like I am pulling a strange face! I was unaware of this until someone commented on it recently. I also do this strange thing with my eyes of opening them really wide and then blinking, (I can't really explain it properly) but I only tend to do that when I am alone so I don't think anyone has noticed yet!

As far as I know I don't walk in a particularly unusual way.

People say I talk quietly, even when i'm trying to be loud! I make starnge faces as people always ask 'why are you looking at me like that?" when i think i'm showing the appropriate facial expression.
