Neato, Kate! ^_^ Lol, I didn't notice it was you with the new avvy.
What sort of dog do you have?
...A big one? Or a little one? :3

12 billion times today I didn't call my mum lame or make comments about her overeating or making any gross noises.

Thanks Beau, and congratulations for your little victory! My dog is a working cocker spaniel. Her name is Maisie, she's adorable. And maybe just a little bit spoiled.

Anyway, back on topic, I had a lightbulb moment today, and I think people at school are afraid to talk to me because they think I hate them. I don't hate anybody, but they don't know that, so I think I should start making casual small talk with them. And that's what I'm going to do. It might be good for me to put myself out there and talk more, and besides, I don't want to always be thought of as the weird girl who sits at the back, doesn't speak, and doesn't like people.

Sweet! ^_^ Maybe you're being too nice? Make it work like the working cocker spaniel it is! :D

You're doing the right thing Kate! Absolutely spot-on! Well... it will certainly be a good start for you! If you initiate conversation, even just short ones, other people will see that you are interested in talking to them and will hopefully reiterate that interest. Heck, you might even discover that some of your classmates have the same interests that you do! Fast track to friendship! :)

It's my parents who spoil her  . She's now used to getting a biscuit whenever she "asks" for one  .Here she is by the way, if you want to have a look. She's wet in that picture because she went swimming in the river.

Thank you, Beau :) . That's what I'm hoping to do today, if I get the chance. I have nothing to lose. Best way to go about it, I think. My shyness can go to Hell!

Neat photo! She's one fine-looking animal. I bet she swims a lot, judging from her physique.

That's the way! I'm proud of you that you're taking steps to improve your social skills... I can't really talk myself though, as I'm still learning, but still... very proud!! :) Lol, Hell... Katey said a naughty! ^.^

Thanks again. I heard a girl who was sat behind me in my English class say she needed a pen, and I turned around and told her she could borrow one of mine. I would have been too shy to do that a while ago.

I think you'll be fine, Beau, considering you appear to be willing to make the effort. You too can make your shyness go to Hell if you try... Katey said another naughty!

Brilliant Kate! A simple kindness can do a lot for your self-esteem, as well as for others; any other situations where another classmate may require assistance in anything is a good opportunity for you to help them as well.

I certainly am willing! God willing! ^_^
I try to be nice and talk to people all the time... but there still seems to be a problem with my self-presentation, as most of the time I just get rotten looks. People like this bother me because I really can't understand why they don't just take my kindness on board... but listen to me complain! Good grief, I'm a wreck. ^^;

There's one woman at work who is very difficult. She likes to make my life miserable, but there is no one else who can do what she does.

Today I very calmly got her to do several things the way I wanted by asking her a series of questions. In the past, when she resisted very rudely, I would get riled up, which would get her riled up, and it would be war (which I got in trouble for). Today it was just very calm, even when she was clearly upset. I am so proud!

I seem to have just about overcome my anxieties about seeing doctors by myself. Right now my concern about my health dwarfs the usual anxieties about making blunders or not knowing what to say, and that focus makes the talking easier. It's an incredibly stressful way of overcoming fears, but it certainly works.

This is no small victory, this is major awesomeness.
Spent like an hour and 10 minutes having this really fun conversation with a girl I met last Friday, we've got so much in common.
It a good thing I had that conversation as only just before then I had a failed encounter with a group of people at college where we went to some super market and I hardly said a word the whole time and stuff like that. So the fun conversation totally makes up for that.
