Spinning my wheels would indicate to me a recognition of effort made, however where it didn't have the desired result. Please correct me if I'm wrong, context and vocal sound can totally change a meaning of a verbal exchange.

Very few have ever said this to me, directly. It's often implied. Through actions, rather than words. Some of them seem to believe that I don't recognize that.

I have always had problems with social skills, which have lead me into a lot of unpleasant situations. Occasionally,I am described as a "narcissist", or "underachiever". When confronted about it, people are often shocked and don't know what to say. My best friends don't do this, but they live in a different city.

I've been having a hard time meeting anyone in this town. I have many acquaintances, but I spend most of my time alone. Usually people who I meet are very warm towards me. I'm well liked, but I can't seem to make any real connections. I also refuse to involve myself with cliques and can't stand social politics. Our society is so tribalistic.

it could be seen as that but i think my mother is telling me that i just need to do whatever i decide "it" is instead of having a plan from A to B to C to D and so forth. im just starting to realize that whatever "it"is is not what i have going on in my life right now. a career change, a positive long term romantic relationship, geographic relocation, etc are the things i guess im spinning my wheels on.
