This situation and comments were taken way out of context. The person who made that suggestion of "being on your own" did not say to isolate yourself from others completely. The interpretation was supposed to be to have more opinions and likes, and to try to open yourself to new experiences in the world and not keep to clumped up in one mold. If you follow a person's interests too much, that's okay if you are willing to go along with everything they like and do. But, many people can't truly hold to that 100%, and if you don't open up or communicate so that the friendship(s) is/are two way, you will not be able to be happy in the friendship.
There's risk and stress in whatever you do. The best thing to do is try not to be too afraid of changes or mistakes, try to learn from them, and it's okay to take breathers and look for space when you need it- just don't make it an ultimatum.
