I love oldies as well :) Mostly 60s music. How old are you, are you male or female, and what area do you live in, if you don't mind me asking? I know a lot of young people who like oldies so just wondering if any might be in your area and I could introduce you . At the very least you can go to the oldiesmusic.com messageboard or the topshelfoldies.com chat. I have a good friend of mine who is my age - 22 - who is huge fan of 50s,60s, 70s, knows everything. You could talk with us :) My aim name is in my profile.

Well, the area where I live is predominantly Republican, so that wouldn't go over too well with a lot of people.
Music. There ya go man. Lots of people love music. :)

I have never had anything in common with people my own age. I have always gotten along better with people who are my mom's age and her friends.

My intrests right now revolve around Babies, and Scupting and Crafts and Herbs. But I talk about How I feel most of the time. I wear everyone out. I know some days when my mom comes home from work she wants to hide from me. because I come out of my room and just blurt out dumb info i have researched online which has nothing to do with anything 8O

See! You and I are 3 for 4 on interests! You wouldn't happen to have taken your username from the protagonist of The Legend of Dragoon would ya? Just a wild guess.

No, but good guess. I did take my username from a video game - Fire Emblem.

I completely understand the feeling. I tend to have more in common with my grandparents and great grandparents generation. I am in my early thirties. I also tend to have a good rapport with children as well (not teens). Here is a quote from another thread that I posted on this forum:

One reason (I have no social life) is I have relatively little in common with what interests most people.

Something I have noticed is most people when together talk about their work and family. I also notice other common topics of conversation are sports, politics, television, pop culture, and current music. I can't really say much in many conversations because:

A- I am unemployed at present. I have been for some time.

B- I don't have a family (wife, children).

C- I don't like sports so I don't follow them.

D- I don't talk politics. I have tried and most people ignore me or think I am wonky.

E- Regarding the telly, I don't watch it hardly at all. My personal opinion is that
I find most popular shows, stupid, idiotic and banal at best. I would rather push
a pea up Vesuvius with my nose than be hypnotised by the idiot box. I haven't
followed telly in years so I hardly know what shows are on and what they
are about. In fact I don't even own a telly anymore. On the rare
occasion I do watch a programme it is a DVD on my computer. To bad I don't live in the
UK as I could save the £131.50 per year TV License fee, especially in light of an
upcoming 3% increase.

F- I don't follow pop culture, espcially Hollywood, as I find that
lifestyle to be naff. I could care least about what star married whom,
cohabited with whom, or committed adultery with whom. I also don't care who got
busted for using dope or driving under the influence. I hear enough of that
listening to the news.

G- I can not stand Sci-Fi.

H- As for music my interests are strictly classical music and
Big Band/Swing with some occasional folk. I haven't been familiar with the pop scene
since mid 1994 when I graduated high school (boarding school). That was
primariliy because I had roomates who played a radio/stereo almost 24/7. I
could not help but hear the pop music.

As a result when I visit my sister and her family, and my young niece and nephews mention a pop singer, I go 'Who?' My opinion of pop music is similar to my above opinion of telly. I especially detest rap and heavy metal.

Sadly, and I know to my disadvantage, I have absolutely no patience for talking about or listening to people talk about things that are of no interest to me. In fact if I am placed in a situation like this I begin to even have anger and anxiety build up inside until I feel sick and leave.

As for my interests, well I am a Russian Orthodox Christian, so I am interested in Orthodox Christianity, Russian History (not the Communist/Stalinist era), Russian language, of which I can speak, read and write some (not fluent, but some). I also like cooking, reading (non fiction mainly), history (not ancient), piano and guitar, classical music, Big Band/Swing Music, British Studies, British History, British English (you may have figured this one out by my posts, I think American English is naff), 1940's-1950's era (light on WWII battles though, the homefront is more interesting to me), oil painting, fine arts, bicycle riding, and Old Time Radio Shows. Politically I am a conservative monarchist although I am sypatico with the libertarians on many issues to a degree. I am interested therefore in Monarchy/Royalty, Roadmasters (yes, cockneyrebel, another fan although I don't know terribly much about them mechanically), tea (as in British) and finally frogs (not for scientific purposes).

Things I dislike are rap, heavy metal or related sorts of music, and hard rock. I also dislike Sci-Fi, most sports, jeans, T-Shirts and sweat suits (all uncomfortable to me). Finally, I hate political correctness and gender neutrality.

I feel I should have been born any time prior to the early 1960's.

As I am lonely, please feel free to PM me or send me an email if you so desire. I may set up an IM account as well soon.

TheTraditionalFrog,

You mentioned that you like Big Band/Swing music. Do you like swing dancing?

I did not previously like Big Band/Swing music (it was ok), but appreciate it much more now that I am taking up and enjoying swing dancing.

Stinkypuppy,

I can't really say, as I have never tried swing dancing. I have watched other people do it though. I wouldn't mind trying it sometime. One dance I'll hold off on for awhile is the Jitterbug, afraid I'd hurt something!

How are things in CT? I went to High School in CT.

Thanks very much for your reply! 8) Swing dancing is really fun, I enjoy it a lot. First dance I ever learned, starting just 5 months ago. Dancing has a lot more rules to it than I thought it did, and that made it easier for me to learn. My styling is still somewhat terrible, so I still dance a little robotically, but it still looks cool nonetheless.

East Coast Swing/Lindy Hop is what I do, I know those are related to Jitterbug somehow but I am forgetting exactly how. Anyway it seems pretty safe, and doing aerials is not permitted in most social dances now, since (from what I heard from people) there were many injuries from people landing on other people at social dances during the 1990s when swing had its revival then. Beginner moves are very safe and straightforward to do, so it's a good way to relax and have fun and enjoy the music. I always enjoy trying to keep up with the beat of the Benny Goodman Orchestra's Sing Sing Sing.

Where in CT did you used to live? I am in New Haven now since I'm a graduate student at Yale. No snow here at all so far this winter!
