I understand what you mean, but the beauty of the internet is you can always leave a forum, or (usually) block/ignore a certain person.

The internet also has the advantage of sharing only what you want to share, and receiving what you want to look for..

To me its a very powerful tool for connection, we can all talk to each other for example! I think the negative side of the ignorant fools can be dealt with easily, much easier than the way ignorance manifests itself IRL most the time.

No and yes. I have met a lot of good friends online who have helped me a lot. I have also met people, who literally can not stand me, I just try to ignore the bullies and hang with the cool people. I own a weather forum, so my staff are all friends, most of them are older than me which helps. I also have some members who are good friends as well. I feel the internet is a much easier place to meet friends, but you have to be careful as some people do not want the best for you. I do not like chat rooms at all, I usually only hang at weather forums, and webmastering forums.
