topics of conversations...I still don't get why I am wrong
I was a little taken aback at the time. About five years ago she called me on the phone and told me she was sorry for being a bad mom and how proud she was of me because I had a nice job and was a good family man. I was really taken aback, I was able to tell her she was good mother as far as I was concern and she did the best she could for me under the circumstances. I told her that if I am successful she played a part in it. Growing up I never thought my childhood was strange or dysfunctional looking back on it now I see it and as you said a lot of people don't get the chance to have that perspective.

I have told our kids that our family life is not the way it has to be. My husband is difficult and I have had problems because of it. I don't want my kids to think that it is OK for someone to tell them they are stupid or will be nothing. I don't want them to believe that a psycho in the house is just normal. I have openly pointed out people who do not behave that way, and highlighted stable, loving families that they know so they could understand there are other options.
I have educated them about post traumatic stress disorder so that they understand that their father is unusual and that it has nothing to do with them, it was that way before they even existed.
My mistake did not have to become theirs too.
Maybe Hyskos's mum was trying to do he same sort of thing for her.
I say good on her.
how many people raised their hands? were there many?

I wish my mother was like that... You're a great mother.

It was so long ago I don’t remember, also I might have been so staggered by the recent revelation of being from a dysfunctional family.
