Not wanting to be around people frequently doesn't necessarily mean that those friendships don't serve a purpose. There is something to be said for not having friendships for the sake of friendships, though, as I believe that past a point surrounding yourself with people who don't resonate with you will actually make you more alone than before.

One of the most notable things for me is that my friends introduce me to new perspectives, provide assistance or feedback, and offer emotional support. There's an unspoken agreement between friends to help each other out and the familiarity means we know what we're working with, which is much better than strangers or acquaintances who'd invest very little, answer just to add to their post count, or have nothing relevant to say. These are people I can rely on to understand where I'm coming from and to work with me.
