Suggestions :

(1) Stop smoking in an annoying way in open public areas just because you enjoy pissing people off.

(2) Take up using snuff (ie in public bathrooms or at home) as this is much more discreet and also less likely to deter women because of a cloud of telltake reek.

(3) Take responsibility for your relationship with fags, rather than blaming others for your decision to take up (and continue) smoking.

(4) Research intervention programs, and attempt to stick to one of them them in a dedicated manner.

(5) Refrain from hurling abuse at people who say this sort of thing.

(6) Alternatively, carry on as you are. It's your choice.

I have been tobacco free since last may and happy for it. I switched to vapor and only wish this would have existed years prior. I dipped Copenhagen for 30 years and smoked marlboros too for 25. Tobacco pipes and the occasional cigar for 20. The vapor took a bit to get used to but now I'm happy with it. I use the strongest nicotine juice I can find with no intention of quitting or stepping the % down.

I stopped smoking in college. Probably won't start again since it's about to kill my grandfather.

I have to admit, I felt a million times cooler when I was smoking though.

recently stopped smoking cigarettes. I started at seventeen, I was never really a heavy smoker, but still it adds up over time. I still smoke hookah occasionally, but I should probably quit that soon too as well since it's also very bad for you.

Being addicted to a drug and smelling like an ashtray isn't cool at all, I reckon.
;-) Standing about outside smoking in all weather probably makes a lot of people feel pretty cold though.

I think that it's way cooler to have extra money to spend on nice things... like good clothes or electronic gadgets.

I have no wish to prolong my life, but intend to enjoy it while it's here. "Electronic gadgets" doesn't quite fit the bill.

I've never smoked and never will. Not even an e-cigarette or a shisha pen.
My dad smokes, and sometimes I accidentally breathe a bit of the smoke in. I try and hold my breath whenever his fag is burning dry. :?

I say let's put things in perspective. Cigarettes smokers have a life expectancy of seventy years while the average for everybody is about 78 years. The average smoker who does not quit will also smoke between a half-million and a million cigarettes in a lifetime. So, smoking does cut some years off of the lives of smokers, but it is hardly the threat the anti-smoking hysterics make it out to be. Listen to them and you'd rather breathe in sarin gas than second-hand smoke.

Even though I can't smoke anymore, smoking is an immensely enjoyable activity, and actually makes people smarter by improving concentration and clarifying thought, particularly for those of us who suffer from ADHD. The fact that all Western governments want to outlaw tobacco while celebrating cannabis suggests to me that they would rather have us stoned and stupid; we're more easily manipulated that way.

Ha, I like the cut of your j/gib (del as app). With a bit of work, that could become quite a convincing conspiracy theory. I trust you will put in the appropriate hours to see it become such...

A conspiracy is where people work together to effect nefarious ends. As such, communists and neo-nazis are both conspiracies. Do these things exist? Or do you really think the entire world holds hands, smokes pot, and sings Give Peace a Chance in perfect harmony?

Well, no, but like your man Chomsky says: "If I say that GM seeks to minimise losses and maximise profits, that's not a conspiracy theory, that's an institutional analysis."

I would hardly call wishing to maximize profits and minimizing losses a conspiracy, as it is not necessarily nefarious. So, Chomsky is right; it is an institutional analysis, though I'm not quite sure what your point it.

Well, make your mind up. Are we all being weaned onto dope to soften us up, or not? And who's behind it? The Trilateral Commission?

Sometimes I think you would argue that black was red, depending on who you were playing cards with. ("Depending on with whom you were playing cards")

I don't know anything about the Trilateral Commission. But is it not possible for a government not to like its citizens? Was Stalin's hatred for kulaks a conspiracy theory?

As far as arguing red is black, all I'm doing now is asking questions.

Actually, I doubt that. Even though there is a political shift among the populous. The federal gov't is still vehemently anti-cannabis. I don't see a shift on that level anytime soon. Too much money is made by law enforcement, courts & the prison industry picking on the low hanging fruit of illegal weed. Those groups have too much lobbying power for there to be a significant change in laws.

Also, stoned people really aren't that stupid, lazy yes, poor short term memory yes, stupid, not really. They just find more things funny, is that stupid? Alcohol makes people MUCH, MUCH more stupid and easily manipulated.

Ah, some thoughtful, intelligent commentary. I think you are partially right that the feds are vehemently anti-cannabis, but this is due to the Republicans rather than the Democrats. If you take a look at the states where cannabis has been legalized in any capacity, it is always blue states. My guess is that if the Democrats thoroughly controlled Washington that cannabis would be legalized, at least on the federal level.

A minor digression: If you are looking for a good reason to criticize Republicans, it is that the party that supposedly advocates devolution of power back to the states wants the feds to bully the states on this issue.

I would also agree that the criminal justice system has become a special interest group of its own.

As far as the effects of cannabis are concerned, since I have more than casual personal experience, I will stand by my original statements. I don't think cannabis makes its users permanently stupid, as in brain damage. But I know from my own personal experience that any higher order thinking had to be done before I had my first puff of cannabis; it made it impossible for me to read for example, or even drive safely. But the next day my mind was clear.

I will agree with you that alcohol is bad stuff, at least when used more than moderately.

If it were up to me, the feds would quit bullying the states on drugs. States and local communities should be able to decide for themselves whether cannabis is legal, the same as it is with alcohol. Where I live, it is actually illegal to sell alcohol. I kind of like it this way.
