Why is it no one has profile photos of themselves here?

My current avatar is a better expression of my personality than my face. All a photo would show is what physical characteristics my face possesses.

I have had my pic as my avatar, but I just randomly have avatars that feature things I find humorous.

My current avatar is the Red Guy from Cow and Chicken (an old Cartoon Network show).

I think one reason why nobody has themselves as their WP profile picture is that the file size limit is super small. I had to put my profile pic in Photoshop and decrease the quality and dimension for it to even upload, which was a pain.

The good thing about decreasing the quality is it makes my skin look airbrushed and you can't see any of my acne :P

Because photos of people are boring. Pictures of cartoon characters or other artwork is cool. :)
Well that's my reason, anyway.

Because due to my position in real life, my husband would face severe consequences in his career if I was formally diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome. It's why I am perfectly content to remain self-diagnosed until he retires in 15 or so years.

Because W.C. Fields is a favorite comedian of mine.
And I'm getting a bit old to post pics of myself.
If you really must know what we look like, there are a few threads where the young and good looking post pics of themselves.

I don't want my family to look my up my full name on the Internet to find a profile pic of my face that would bring them to WP. I also don't want any pictures of myself to jeopardize my future chances of employment.

Why?

Because I don't feel like putting my actual picture up here, and because I'm a Pottermore Slytherin, which is why I have a Slytherin avatar up.

I wouldn't want my photo floating around on the internet.

I don't like being judged by how I look, and i'm paranoid about privacy.

I'm not a good looking person, therefore, no picture. Also, I value my privacy too much.

In actuality, that really IS Tim_Tex! He does look like that in person. We like him like that here...... :)

But yes, our avatars are our pictures for lots of us.

I'm actually pretty open about myself, so I post pics of myself on occasion.

Eh, the only place I upload pics of myself are on Facebook. Which is private, rarely used, and has only about 70 friends (most family, and a few high school aquaintances who wanted to remain some contact with me).

Elsewhere, I'll most likely take a real pic of myself, add some cool effects via a photoshop like application, then use it as my avatar. Like my current one. It's artistic and matches my username.

There, back in August, I was out in public with headphones hanging over my ears as usual, music loud because I enjoy some background music. Musician is a given and yeah, I'd describe myself as enigmatic.

This is the only place on the net where I've uploaded this pic. I am cautious, definitely have limits, though I don't mind showing my face (even without the artistic effect).

Isn't it easier to work on social skills on the web, where people have a face, but you don't have to interact with each other face to face?

It depends.

I have 3 motorcycle groups I am/have been involved with. Only one really "accepts" me, but it's the kind of group where they'll rip you a new anus for acting like an idiot then offer you a beer afterwards. Not for the thin of skin, but at least you can talk about anything without being banned on the forum.

The other two groups I've not really felt like I belong and have a connection with very few of the members.

I can't explain the chemistry factor. I do know some have been more tolerant of me now that they know about AS...either because it's the polite thing to do or because they understand why I'm so odd (although, should it matter if you're "odd" because of a disability or just odd for the sake of being odd).

For me, it's mainly because I don't photograph very well. I'm attractive enough in person, but I always seem to end up with a facial expression that looks like I'm either on drugs or mentally challenged.
