The only thing I don't like about this website is the activity level. I'm usually only on once or twice a day, and every time I log on and go to see new posts, there's always like 500 threads on the list and I feel frustrated because I can't look at every single one of them. Also, for some reason I have an aversion to participating in threads that are more than a few pages long. If I see a thread that I think sounds interesting, but it has like seven pages, I probably won't reply to eat because it's hard for me to read and analyze every single post (which I need to do when replying to a thread).

I like the people here, though.

I don't get it. You have 20 posts. Where is your participation?

Maybe the answer exists in your own perception or definition of what friendship or general social interaction is.

There are tons of forums and tons of threads on here-pick one and start yaking-contributing.
My philosophy is that a person will be lucky to have 1 friend in life who understands them; one's best friend is one's self-I myself know thousands of people; are they 'friends'? No of course not-they are people who know my name and face, maybe only 10 I would have to dinner-so why are you miffed that.....oh nevermind. Why are you miffed that with 20 posts you have not found the level of participation/sharing you desire?

Don't be so hard on yourself or wrongplanet. This can be the place to assist you-but it is not it's responsibility/obligation to fix/service you. It is a gift. Please bear that in mind when thinking negatively about what you haven't found yet.

Take care :wink:
and
Don't sweat the small stuff.

I find that it's easier to pay attention to one small area of the site. Find a couple of boards that really interest you, and focus on those. It is a large site, with a lot of posts, so (unless you are obsessed like I am) it is impossible to keep up on many of them. If you have interests which span the categories, pick a few threads and keep up with them. You can mark to be notified if they are updated. It's hard to know someone from just a few posts, but if they are concentrated it becomes easier.

I've never had a problem with wrongplanet.com, but then again, I always use wrongplanet.net so that could be the reason.

Twenty posts isn't going to make friends with anyone. Maybe you have an unrealistic approach to getting to know people online. And name calling sure isn't going to win friends and influence people, either. Like people have said before, the site is huge. There is an RSS feed that updates with new posts, so you can keep track of postings in all areas of the site, or there is an option for when you first log into the forums to "show posts since last visit," and that will show all new posts in every topic. It's pretty cool. What do you mean by saying you are computer illiterate? You obviously know how to type and use the internet. You can turn the computer on...imagine working for a tech support company and taking phone calls from people who can't get their computer to work only to figure out an hour into the call that they don't know what the POWER button is for. THAT is computer illiterate.

And .com doesn't mean it sell stuff, it is just the most common affix, the one that most people think of when talking about any website. It doesn't even matter to search engines if you use .com or .net or .biz or .whatever. It matters for type in traffic because the first affix people attach (example being the title of this thread) is .com. It is interesting. People oftentimes use other affixes because the .com domain is already taken. For instance, I don't know if Alex actually bought wrongplanet.com and opted for .net, but the actual site for wrongplanet.com is some ad link site. Anyway.

It takes quite a bit more than 20 posts to find that other members start to notice your presence on the forum, given the sheer number of threads and posts made each day. I suggest more effort, maybe, to attain the result you seek.

Originally, the three letter extensions after the dot (or Top Level Domain/TLD) were meant to denote whether the domain name was being used for business (.com) charity/non-profit (.org) or for a technology based company (.net). However, with the explosion of the Internet (and specifically, the world wide web) as a new business medium, the lines were blurred, and companies and individuals alike started cross-registering domains (ie. Me.com, me.net, me.org) just to protect their interests. Now, .com, .net, and .org names (the generic Top Level Domains) can be used for any purpose.

I get upset with it a bit. But for other reasons.

I'm still here though which says something. (Nor have I made any posts about threatening to leave or anything :P)

Same here. The avatar has remained constant too, which many people's
haven't. I have to start all over with someone if their avatar changes a lot.

Boy, did Flagg confuse me.

dexkaden - thanks for explaining better than I would have.

I'm always frustrated with this place. But I stay because one day there might be one member that I see eye to eye with, and that would be worth it.

I'm more frustrated now than i've ever been, though.

No, it’s right
.com=commercial
.org=organization
.net=network
.gov=government
Commercial can mean it advertises, sells, or just is the official website for something that costs money
Organization is like autism speaks
Network is like here, people all have the same status, cannot be overruled at this location, since it’s there own choice of coming, and communicate amongst eachother
Governmental is run by the government, it is often mainly built for just recourses, like the FBI MOST WANTED PAGES or there is another .gov that tells you the basics for different jobs
