Is It Ganerally OK For A Guy To Call A Girl "Mate"?

I've never called a woman a dude--I haven't called too many guys that, either. I usually call a guy "buddy."

If you wanted to sound macho, guys used to call other guys "Jack," "Jim," "chief," "man," and many other names.

My limit is when I'm hanging out in mixed company. As a collective, I call us all "guys." I wouldn't call a woman a "guy" or a "dude."

Originally, ironically, "dude" meant something like "naïve." A "dude ranch" was a place where novices in riding horses and such took their vacations.

In the 1960s, only African Americans called each other "dude," meaning "buddy."

Ironically, "dude" used to mean "naïve." A "dude ranch" was a place where people who were novices in horse riding and other cowboy things went on vacation so they can pretend they were cowboys.

"Mate" is a British/Australian term to me. People only started saying "No Worries" after "Crocodile Dundee" came out.

i guess it depends if she is a mate or not.

my girlfriend calls me dude. for...reasons.

Probably OK but it would probably fly over/past just about anyone's heads...
