Hi:
I wanted to put it out there that I have the tendency to as other put it "Talk too much" or "Dominate the conversation." What are some helpful tips in not talking so much? I don't want to keep coming across as annoying or as self-absorbed.

Do you have a tendency to "talk too much" primarily about particular topics (e.g. special interests), or just in general?

For me, it is a nervous habit where I will talk to fill in the gaps and go on non-stop. I also tend to want to talk about every detail and be an open book. Yet, I am trying to curve that.

I recognize I have this problem so I tend to limit conversation. Sometimes I slip, though. Right before Christmas I knocked out on a 17-min monologue about all the James Bond films and what each Bond brought to the series, including the years they were made, firearms used, notable moments, and theme songs. This was in response to two people trying to figure out the name of one of the movies.

Afterwards, one of the ladies said, "You really like Bond films." I don't really.

My actual age is 71. But deep inside me I am still a boy of 5. I live in a world full of wonder. Each day I get up and explore the world and its mysteries. So my Avatar is actually a photograph of me when I was around 5. It represents what I look like inside my shell, which is my physical body.

This is the same for me, although I've seen a lot, I'm still a kid. @OP, the day my life changed is when I met a doctor with autism. We would talk for hours and hours. It is quite different to be able to be one's self like that. I know everyone on the spectrum is different but man, what a difference to engage with other ASD's.

When I was in college and away for the summer working as a co-op. I met an individual who was probably an Aspie. I said Hi and struck a conversation. He talked for over an hour and I didn't get one word in edgewise. After an hour I changed the subject. He picked up really quick and carried the conversation for another hour. I then changed the topic again and away he went for another hour. I figured there was all this information just bottled up inside him, ready to explode and it had to find a release. I was the release. Anyways after three hours of conversation, I told him I need to fix dinner and he had to leave. We became best friends and still are for the past half century. He is one of my closest friends.

Awwwwwwww. That is so great. Some people's weird is some people's perfect. My AS-like BFF and I met in reverse (she listened, I talked). Currently it suits both of us that I'm 75% and she's 25% of the spoken words, unless we have some wine, in which case the ratio reverses for some time.

If I am around someone who talks too much I will switch to yeah and un huh mode and not give my opinion on what the person is talking about so the conversation will end quicker.
