I am an ISFP. I have never taken the MBTI before until recently, and it was pretty spot on with the results.

ISFP is a profile that I haven't come across what's that like?

Well this will sum it up better than I can:

MBTI Characteristics

the thing is...it's hard living with that kind of personality, though, because while I do like to see other people happy, I generally have absolutely no idea how to accomplish that because I hate the interaction part of it. I can sit there, see an unhappy person (or at least my perception of one, which even then is sometimes hard to distinguish from a happy one), want to cheer them up, and there the blank gets drawn. I just freeze and always either say something really stupid or nothing at all. I like my space...and alot of it. I tend to get quite agitated when it's invaded. I think the part that's scariest is I am my own worst enemy. I'm always trying to be better or do something better with myself, and it's never good enough to me. It's quite the anomaly to me...I simply don't understand how I function sometimes haha. All in all, it's not so bad, yet it's usually not good. At least not in my case.

Rok

I think that we can all be our own worse enemy but at the same time I can related to these characteristics (although it seems that I happiest during solitude because there is no fear of criticism then again people can never see me at my best because of that). Thank you for sharing that though it was insightful

INFP for me. Other people seem to think it suits me, so I guess it describes me pretty well.

I agree with you. I also am happiest in my solitude. No so much for fear of criticism, but rather than peace in isolation. While I don't enjoy the criticism, I've come to terms with that's just the way people are. It never makes it any easier, though.

Not all people are criticizing but for the introverts among us at least I tend to withdraw into myself so that I basically feel the need to shut the world out. It helps me to recharge (since I basically have no choice but to study alone here at medical school). I guess I learn to live with it even though I work with people sometimes I have to talk things out otherwise they don't make sense to me which in my mind works for me. In addition if it seems that I know something I attribute to seeing it over and over again not actually giving credit to myself that hey I know this (that would be too easy)

I too am an INFP.
I have given up trying to fight it and am persuing licensure as a MFT. I plan to open my own practice serving the autistic population and those who love us.

Interesting what is an MFT? Seriously being introverted hasn't meant that I don't like social contact. What it means for me is that I can't stand stupidity & that problems can't be solved (especially when they are stemming from emotional issues rather then logic). That seems to happen with colleagues here at medical school. Oh well nothing can be done about that except to withdraw into my little world (which is what we introverts are good at).

INFJ
Not sure how that interacts with AS characteristics, still trying to come to therms with AS implications on their own.

MFT stands for Marriage and Family Therapist it is the masters degree level licensure for psychology. PHD level licensure is callded Clinical Psychologists. Some people here have had traumatic experiences trying to work with psychologists under a variety of settings. I certainly am one of them. So, please remember that just as people with autism have a variety of world views, psychologists vary in their view of autistics and autism. Some of them are abusive to us while others embrace us. Some of them are even us.

Interesting, I have never worked with any psychologists at all but thank you for expanding on that. Aspie psychologists I haven't encountered personally but that doesn't mean that they are not there.

I took an online test a long time ago and it told me I was INTJ, or in other words "The Mastermind".

I don't know where to find it again so I can't verify that result.

I am very interested in the MBTI thing. I am an ENFP. I find it has had a weird effect on my life. I have always had the desire to socialise but struggled with social skills, and visual processing stuff. Being an E has also made me loud and indiscreet at times. But I am determined to make it all work somehow.

Being an E seems rare on here. I know of a few on the board and I think my concerns are more similar to theirs than the things that concern I's.

I think E's are rare here because E's are known to be able to socialize for them (& this varies from person to person) that is how they gain energy. Solitude for extroverts involves them grabbing the cellphone & calling friends (which why I wonder how they can study at all). An I (which I & many of the people who responded on this thread are) tend to get their energy from the inner world (which is why nobody sees me at my best it is because I am at my best when there is nobody around to criticize me) However, your type zen_mistress is the exact opposite of mine (I'm ISTJ you are ENFP).

I can't help thinking that being AS must be hard for E types. I mean that having trouble with social interaction would put a strain on the very way they feel energised. Myself being Inward focused for my energy means I can just go into a kind of "Mental Hybernation" and everything is OK.
