I was talking about a different Alexander.

And I thought you guys were trekkies.

The point was, I don't want to be like the oppressors.
They can kick me around, but I will never internalize their ways.
I have no desire to be like them.

I tried to post this last night, but for some reason my computer didn't cooperate...

"Plato's Stepchildren" was an original series episode in which the Enterprise encountered a planet populated by people with amazing mental powers, in a society similar to a degenerate Greece. (The locals fancied themselves as followers of the philosophies of Plato.) Alexander was a mutant of their kind - born a dwarf, and lacking those powers. He was used as a slave and a toy by the others. (In the end, McCoy discovered an injection that would give anyone the powers of the locals, only more so. Alexander was tempted to treat the others the way they had treated him, but in the end decided that that would make him even worse than them.)

Alexander Roshenko was a totally different character... :)

Ah, OK, got it. Thanks. I agree.

And I realize that most adults don't intend to hurt others... myself included. Yet we inadvertently do, so a little forgiveness and forebearance serves us all well, Aspie and NT alike.

:)

I spend most of my life wishing that were true. Making excuses and trying to find a rational reason for the way people behave.

What you're thinking of is the superficial stuff that people are willing to talk about. One can be selfish or short-sighted and accidentally step on toes.

But underneath it all is an unacknowledged system that REQUIRES constant bullying, at every level, in every situation. It's that never-ending game of CalvinBall. If you don't play, you pay. Aspies don't get it and are therefore victims of this game, all the time. Probably most homeless people are homeless because they can't play the game. In the military, people who don't get it are used as cannon fodder. Back home, they're used as stepping stones. Overt or covert aggression always wins, and nice people always lose.
