Most don't think it will fix us and are simply nasty people. Gotta love the herd mentality. The ones that do think it will fix us... it's an animalistic behavior... in which they are "teaching us a lesson" for our "inappropriate" behavior. I don't think we have to adapt to their rules to survive though. If you're good enough at what you do you are able to create your own group without being forced to assimilate into another one.

What in the whole, wide world makes you think that NTs are being mean for some specific reason? NTs are not mean because they are NTs, but there are mean people among all kinds of humans, apies too. People who are mean people are so for a plethora of bad reasons. I am an NT and I sort of resent being categorized as belonging to a "species" which so many aspies seem to think consists of people who are shallow, mean and just plain stupid. The world consists mainly of NTs, and a more diverse and heterogeneous "group" you'd be hard pressed to find. The NTs I know are compassionate, highly intelligent people who would never resort to degrading fellow human beings.

I know that many aspies have been treated badly by other people, but stop blaming that poor behaviour on the perpetrator's "NT-status". If you yourself have been treated unfairly, you must know that being unfair in return does no good.

i understand why you're upset at the generalization of all NT's, but surely you can understand where the bitterness comes from. many aspies are still reeling from the emotional damage of being made fun of so severely in grade school, i know i am. i however, have learned that if i held a grudge against every single person who made fun of me, i would make myself sick.
until like a month ago, i had no idea that there was a name for my mysterious strangeness, and have never met (in person), anyone else with asperger's. so for that reason, i have no choice but to have NT friends. yeah, i tolerate NT's as a last resort, but they're better than nothing  ) that last statement was a joke (haha), but i realize that there are well-meaning NT's out there. its just a hard journey for us aspies to try and find them.

AS people require extra sensitivity and effort. "NT" people don't enjoy putting in this extra effort when there are plenty of other "NT" people about that don't have special needs. They resent the extra effort required and give you a hard time. It's not their fault, it's not their job to revolve their sensitivities around our specialised needs, and the ones who do, they're special.

This thread needs to be locked now. It has simply degenerated into NT bashing coupled with (understandingly) perplexed NT users who are being hurt by it.

Well, I don't just mean AS, I mean everything. Any sort of difference or even 'handicap', or just plain nerdery. Why do NTs think that beating up or otherwise abusing such people is a good idea? It's social thinking instead of logical thinking. NT's tend to use social thinking, Aspies tend to use logical thinking. It's like, sometimes, that strategy of meanness to try to get people to conform works. But then they apply it when it's not appropriate. For people who can't simply conform, or don't want to. It's not that they logically think that they can fix the people by treating them that way. It's, rather, that they never apply logical thinking. It doesn't occur to them to. They apply social thinking, and do so in away that works much of the time, not realizing they are in a situation where it doesn't.

(Answered without reading the replies, so I don't know if I'm being redundant or not.)

Terrorism. Plain and simple.

Many Normals think that by kicking
the cane out from under the old Grandma/Grandpa
or such, and yelling "Oh get up and WALK!!"
they think force and terrorising is the answer.
