Hello my fellow Washingtonians and Aspie's! :)

Checking in (roll call) from Oak Harbor (Whidbey Island) for my son and I. :)

I need help from you guys/gals, anyone in the Redmond and surrounding areas who can help please...

My son is 18, living at home, between mid and high-functioning, and expected to live with me for many years as I try to teach him living skills.

Long story short we have to move and I'm looking at Redmond because it looks like it would present much, much better opportunities for him than there are available here (he has to have help from the DVR to get a job and the DVR here is talking about how excellent it is down there for opportunities). Haven't figured out yet how I'm going to afford it though... :\

Anyhow, does anyone know if there is any type of organization down there that provides any type of relocation assistance for when a "special-needs" person is moving to that area (whether it be financial assistance or just someone to talk to that could assist by helping me to find a place to rent based on my son's needs)?

He'll still be living with me but down there. And if there is any type of assistance available, any idea who I would contact?

Thank you so much to anyone who can help!
Diane

Hi Equestriatola!

I'm from California, born and raised in Southern California (moved to Washington to get help for my son), and I realize that I'm not really anybody to you and therefore my opinion may not matter (which is okay) :) but I just want to throw in my two cents and say "really really think about that (moving to Los Angeles) before doing it".

Southern California is not what it used to be many years ago (I'm 49 and even then when I was going to school in Pomona, about an hour or so out of LA, we had riots that shut down our school more than once).

I won't bug you anymore about it, I just wanted to throw in my two cents since I lived there for 43 years... ;)

Have a great day!!
Diane
