The London Wetland Centre is situated about 25 minutes from central London, on the banks of the River Thames in Barnes. It is easily accessible by public and private transport (view Quickmap1 to see how you can get here). A one-day Travelcard (zones 1 & 2) allows you to travel by tube and bus direct to the centre:
Address:
WWT London Wetland Centre
Queen Elizabeth's Walk
Barnes, London
SW13 9WT
T: 020 8409 4400
By bus
Hop on the number 283 Duck bus, direct to the centre from Hammersmith bus station (stand K). Alternatively buses 33, 72 and 209 stop nearby (alight at the Red Lion stop, approximately 150 metres walk from the wetland centre). Please note: outside of opening hours (i.e.before 9am and after about 5.45pm) the 283 Duck Bus terminates nearby in Barnes, rather than coming directly into the centre.
By rail
Barnes rail station is just 25 minutes from Waterloo or 10 minutes from Clapham Junction. It is then a 15 minute walk to the wetland centre (or 5 minutes by buses 72 or 33). You can also alight at Barnes Bridge station then walk through Barnes village (about a 15 minute walk) or catch a 209 bus (alight at the bus stop opposite the Red Lion pub, which is approximately 100 metres from the centre).
By tube
Hammersmith tube (on the Piccadilly and District & Circle Lines) is the nearest tube station. From here it is just a 10 minute bus ride (see ‘by bus’).
By coach
The centre has parking for nine large coaches. Parking is free for coaches bringing visitors to the centre, but places must be booked in advance. Drivers should note that coaches are not permitted to use Hammersmith Bridge.
By bike
The London Wetland Centre is situated on Sustrans Cycle Route 4, which includes access from the River Thames towpath. Cycling makes for an environmentally friendly and pleasant way to arrive at the centre and in addition to standard cycle racks there are fifty secure bike cages (please supply your own lock).
On foot
The centre is easily accessible from the River Thames towpath, situated on the south bank between Hammersmith Bridge and Putney (about 25 minutes walk from either location).
By car
There is ample free parking for visitors arriving by car, although where possible we would encourage our visitors to use more environmentally friendly forms of transport.
The centre is located just off the main A306 which runs from the South Circular at Roehampton (with easy access to the A3) to Hammersmith (just minutes from the A4/M4). Once in Barnes you can follow the brown tourist signs to the centre. The centre is situated outside the London Congestion Charging Zone.
By taxi32
If you are travelling to or from the centre by taxi we encourage you to use the taxi company Green Tomato Cars. This company uses a fleet of the most viable environmentally friendly cars and offers the service at competitive rates. Being a wetland, is it worth bringing the Hummer, or would the sports coupé be adequate.
If we only could get a speed date with you and the ten guys on this forum who have been drooling over your picture

Alas, I am unavailable for romantic intrigues as I am madly in love with someone, the fool that I am

Thats sad

Curious how this went, anyone know?
is Lotusblossom around here somewhere?
I found it to be an entirely enjoyable experience, and a major milestone marking the beginning of what may become a better grasp of myself in future. I anticipate another such meet up with quite remarkable eagerness.
Though I engaged with perhaps only around half of the group to a high standard, it was something of an achievement for me to have actually felt so integrated into a group so large. In an everyday environment, I would be known more to hang back, adopt one person as a 'support', and talk to that person almost exclusively. Though I was like that for part of the day, I later relaxed more, and gravitated into the circle, so to speak. This has significance to me. By the end of the evening, I felt reluctant to finish the day and go home.
I was happy, also, to have been involved in several lengthy discussions, which again is a surprise, as I normally am known as a man of few words in circles larger than perhaps 3. In the wake of such interesting dialogue, at the very least 4 others have found themselves an admirer here, as I can confidently state the quality of discussion (in terms of my favour) is far higher than what I am accustomed to around me.
So, though I was somewhat out of my comfort zone, it seems I found a much more comfortable zone.
I give the day 8 out of 10. 1 mark deducted for the downpour, and another for the absence of ducks in the very place the ducks are meant to be! lol. Puddles and a bird strike aside, the meet up was a definite 10/10.
((((hugs))))

Well the meet up went really well!
I met smudge and mutate and Philipthegreat at the station and we walked from there to the wetlands and as the road grew before us in a mysterious way, we managed to be a few minutes late. We met aspiechav at the door and I handed out discount vouchers and we hurriedly filled them in and discovering Toby and luckybunny in the court yard we moved on to the beauitful but wind swept cafe, where we met Melissa17b and chicken.
We then had a lovely chat and breakbeatnik and Jwa arrived. We bought some coffee and got to know each other a bit. After coffee and introductions we went for a brief fresh and breezy walk around the wetlands and up a 'tower' hide which had splendid views.
Then we hurriedly returned to the cafe just as it started to rain. Psych arrived at this point and was disapointed for missing the walk but as it was pouring with rain by this time we did not want to venture out again. After cake and more coffee we went to meet Criss in the blue anchor pub by hammersmith bridge. I was very pleased with myself for remembering to buy presents for my kids in the gift shop as they greated me with tears after the museum meet up as I had forgotten them
Chicken went home at this time and we were all sad to see her go. Jwa and aspiechav and passengers went in their cars while a hardcore group of us walked the short distance to the pub. DG1 arrived half way through the evening which was really nice and Criss was charming and affirming as always and a joy to be around. We stayed in the pub till 10pm, and had such fun, I got lots of hugs which was great and lots of high fives off Philipthegreat which was a totally new experience for me.
I was very sad to go home as I enjoyed meeting everyone so much and we all got on well and had a lot of fun.
