I also have trouble relating to people, for my interests are different. I have learned to respect others interest , and also look at them as something I might be interested in. The people I work with like NASCAR,so when there is a race I ask them "How is the race?" I also have a boss who likes to hunt deer , and I sometimes ask about it. Be careful about Aspies speaking only about their own interest. Remember to read the other person, and we all have trouble with that, so if they are not really interested you can excuse yourself or ask them more about thier interests. :D

I wish I had some kind tips to give you, but I don't, seeing that I clicked on this seeing if I could read some of the tips for myself :P. Are you able to drive? If you can drive, you can go to lots of places where you're likely to meet interesting people, but if you're like me, you can't drive, which means your social interactions are limited mostly to one place (in my case, it's school.)

As for my interests, well I am a Russian Orthodox Christian, so I am interested in Orthodox Christianity, Russian History (not the Communist/Stalinist era), Russian language, of which I can speak, read and write some (not fluent, but some). I also like cooking, reading (non fiction mainly), history (not ancient), piano and guitar, classical music, Big Band/Swing Music, British Studies, British History, British English (you may have figured this one out by my posts, I think American English is naff), 1940's-1950's era (light on WWII battles though, the homefront is more interesting to me), oil painting, fine arts, bicycle riding, and Old Time Radio Shows. Politically I am a conservative monarchist although I am sypatico with the libertarians on many issues to a degree. I am interested therefore in Monarchy/Royalty, Roadmasters (yes, cockneyrebel, another fan although I don't know terribly much about them mechanically), tea (as in British) and finally frogs (not for scientific purposes).

See, the problem with life is that people with the most unusual and (I think) interesting interests are shunned by the majority who only like the same damn things. When I look for friends, I think "unusual interests" and I'm starting to realize that instead of conforming my interests to the majority (or asking the majority to conform to mine) look for individuals. If they're okay with having "weird" interests, then they probably won't have a problem with your interests.

If you can play, or learn, start a band. I hold my nose when I say this, but 80s retro is big nowadays.

The reason I hold my nose is because I'm a modernist in the Jello Biafra sense. "Retro is poison."

Nah, haven't you heard? Someone shot nostalgia in the back.
