i like snapchat because it's personal. it's only closer "friends" whose phone numbers i have and there's no pressure to have to comment, get into conversations or arguments, or worry about getting enough "likes". it's a nice alternative to casually texting people and i can be sure that the people viewing my content are actually interested in my life and not just nosy acquaintances.
i also like instagram... people post less often than on Facebook and usually with more purpose and something actually meaningful to say. they also use less words and focus on an image that speaks for itself, so it's more straightforward. plus, usernames rather than real names make it less of a popularity game and more genuine. I also follow lots of hobby-related accounts and not as many people i know so its relaxing to scroll through.
I kept my Facebook intact and kept the messenger app on my phone because its the best way to keep contact with some people, but i don't log into the regular account except to accept a new friend request that i know I've received. i hate Facebook. it gives me so much anxiety and i never feel good after being on it. it's all just a game, popularity contest, pathetic cries for attention, and lots of exclusive cracks that shove inside jokes and vague descriptions in the faces of those who are not "in" on the laugh or the event being referred to. people are so eager to tag the "cool" crowd or the "famous friends" and they say it's not for status and popularity, but it so obviously is. then the commenters and likers are not interested because they are true friends, but just because they want to feel like they are a part of that "special" thing or know that "special" person and show everyone else that they are "cool" as well. I could rant on and on about it.....
