dark_mage,

wow you study in Dominica? I looked up Dominica on Wikipedia, it looks like a very tiny country of less than 80,000 people...that's less people than my Local Government Area in Melbourne, Australia (150,000 people)! I'm always interested in knowing more about island nations and micronations. It must be convenient for you to travel from one side of the country to another. What language/s do you usually speak?

I study Medicine as well, but at University of Melbourne. Ours is a 6 year course, the first 2.5 years is done at Uni, then we have a 1 year research year, and final 2.5 years is clinical rotations in hospitals. After your research year, you apply for the hospital which you want to do your rotations in. What is Ross University's Medicine course like?

I have LOTS of trouble reading emotional signals, apart from the obvious ones like "happy", "sad" and "angry". Everything else is gibberish to me. English is my main language, but I still have lots of trouble understanding what people say unless they speak in simple English like primary school standard, or if they speak slowly.

Like I try to watch TV shows like "Gossip Girl", "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scrubs" and I have no idea what these people are talking about (unless it's scientific), and why there's so much drama involved in relationships. Even comedies, I don't understand the jokes and why they're funny, like Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Guy. The only exception for me is Big Bang Theory, but that's coz there's physics and maths involved.
Music lyrics I have trouble with too. For me, trying to understand the lyrics is like analyzing poetry, it's not an innate skill which I have.

It's like these NT people are speaking a different language, which puts me off following mainstream culture (apart from watching movies)... :(

Dominica is a small island they speak french, (creole) & english as well. I speak english mostly but can understand gujrati (my parents speak that). Ross university has it like most US schools we have 16 months on the island (years 1 & 2) then take our step I of the USMLE (licensing exam) then do 2 years of rotations finish up the licensing exam apply for residencies in various hospitals & go from there. As for emotional signals I can read those from tv shows but sometimes they go over my head when the person involved is trying to spare my feelings (which I think is useless because it winds up causing more pain because there is a lack of information & we ISTJ types need information)

For those who happen to be introverted at all (or ISTJ or any of them) do you have trouble reading emotional signals? I believe I do simply because sometimes when others are giving these signals off (the people in question happen to be extroverted) I can't understand them (subtly is not my strong suit I'll admit to that)

If it helps any, I have always had difficulty reading emotional signals, and I am an extrovert and a feeler. Must be the AS... :)

Although I have been perceived by others as an extrovert, I really get energy more by being alone. However, I do enjoy being around people I know, so at those times I can appear more extroverted.

@zen_mistress it could be the AS then again it could be other things.

@SteveBorg I am social when I choose to be or have to be but I prefer being alone. If I'm with people I know (real friends) then I have an extroverted side that just pops out (Don't know how that happens ;))
