Hi,

My name is Melanie, 33 yrs of age, diagnosed Aspergian, with 3 children and living in the UK. My middle child lives with high-functioning autism also.

I have no friends. Not a single one. Each time I let my guard down, I find I am confused by the implications, intentional skimming over real issues, and indirect use of language, which bugs me to the point of irritation, and I find I can't trust people. I consequently barricade myself into my own world again, and over the years I have felt my world becoming smaller and smaller. One day I think I may disappear altogether, as my world implodes, and acquaintances suddenly drop off my social radar.

There is much to say on the issue, but for now, just an introductory 'hey' will suffice here.

It would be nice to form a meaningful friendship, but with each passing year, I lose hope. I am intensely interested in science, and artful photography, amongst other things.

I spend too much time on the computer, and too much time thinking about the human condition, and I enjoy reading, singing and creating.

I'm Brooke. I am 20 years old from South Carolina. I was in college for computer programming but I dropped out due to the stress of going to school every day. I live alone with my dog and basically have very little social interaction at the moment. It's actually quite hard living alone and not having peers to do things with. I can't even get out of the house because the battery in my car is dead. :(

Even though I was in school for programming, I don't really spend much time programming anymore. My biggest interest is gaming. Right now I am playing Mass Effect 3.
Some of my other hobbies are creating music, movies, drawing, and computer stuff. I am diagnosed with AS. I think I do pretty well but it is hard to function out in the real world.

Hey peoples :D

I'm a 22 year old girl who lives in Australia, Brisbane (or close to). I work full time in Psych and am currently saving up to go back to college. My main interests are history, politics, some philosophy, and other associated topics so it anyone wants to talk about that kinda stuff, PM me!

Apart from that I am really into music and play multiple instruments and dabble quite a bit with it and also into dance in a huge way. I have a range of other interests (mostly outdoor) too, so please don't be shy. I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese mostly.

If you ever have anything you want to chat about or someone to listen or advice, I'm always here. I have a sense of humor and as such I generally only watch tv or movies that either amuse me or really make me think. I love learning new stuff too so if there's anything else you're up to talk about, let me know.

Hi. Name's Sarah. I'm a 21 year old college student studying graphic design. I'm from Montana, US most recently. I think I'll just copy what I wrote for the "Questions about you" thread.

Location: BYU-Idaho at the moment

Hobbies and Interests: reading, playing and listening to music, art, graphic design, technology, learning for the sake of learning, science

Why are you here? I have Asperger's Syndrome. I'm trying to understand myself better and figuring out to be the happiest most successful person I can be.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): a few weeks ago.

Favorite subjects: Art, Science (so long as there isn't math involved), English, music

Year/Grade: junior in college

Favorite music: Oh, where to begin? I think I'll just stick with genres to make this easier. Progressive rock/metal (usually not a fan of screaming though), experimental, alternative/indie, some classic rock, trip hop, some jazz, and classical (particularly baroque, romantic, and modern).

Books: A Cloockwork Orange, Brave New World, The Count of Monte Cristo, Lord of the Rings, Flowers For Algernon, Night, Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman, Godel Escher and Bach, anything Roald Dahl, The Great Gatsby. I can't remember everything but it's generally dystopian literature, non-fiction on subjects I'm interested in, classical literature (so long as it isn't too longwinded), sci-fi and fantasy, so long as it's relatable to this world somehow, and books that experiment with language, such as Clockwork Orange, Jabberwocky, James Joyce, etc. that use made up words to express themselves (I like the experience of interpretation and decoding).

TV shows/Movies: A Beautiful Mind, anything Pixar, Miyazaki, or Tim Burton, Avengers, Fullmetal Alchemist, Trigun, Monty Python, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Death Note, Star Wars, Star Trek, Between the Folds (documentary on origami). Generally anything highly creative, cerebral, awe inspiring, or relatable.

Instrument: piano, cello, electric and acoustic guitar.

Do you like sports? I prefer individual sports, but team sports are fun on occasion. At least they're social experiences where you don't have to talk too much.

Family: I have a mom and dad, happily married, 2 sisters ages 19 and 17 (one of which has classical autism, non verbal, no hope of ever living independently) and a brother, age 13. I'm the oldest.

Clothing: I'm actually somewhat into fashion (though I pick and choose trends). I guess it's the artist in my that likes composing my outfits. I tend to like retro, bohemian, and rocker style clothing.

How did you find this website? When I was first diagnosed, I went on a researching rampage on AS, and this is one of the things that came up.

Job: I don't work while I'm at school. I work at my dad's dental office during breaks, cleaning and setting up rooms for appointments, data entry, occasionally answering the phone, figuring out software quirks so I can help the assistants and hygienist, and the occasional graphic design jobs (phonebook and magazine ads, comment cards, forms, etc.).

Plans for the future? Ideally, I want to design the credits for movies. I know, it sounds odd, but well designed credits for movies are one of the few things I can get ecstatic over. I also want to play in a rock band and an orchestra. Being financially independent would be nice too.

Hi I'm Dominic. I live in Greater Manchester in the UK and my hobbies are reading, writing, surfing the Internet, walking and swimming. I'm a huge fan of Neil Gaiman and my favourite book by him is American Gods. I go to a student-run creative writing class every Friday and I'm hoping to be a published writer in the future. I'm also into Doctor Who and the new Thundercats.

I'm not going to say hi because seemingly everyone else is starting off their introductions with hi's >.>

My name is Troy, I'm 22 years old and male, My family consists of 2 social butterflies (Mother & Sister) who just can't seem to wrap their head around my need for social isolation in order to recharge and choice not to have sex with every women I meet everywhere I go. I live with a room mate whom I am fairly certain is an aspie like me as we both share the same fixation, social awkwardness, and other properties, we get along well :)

I deeply enjoy programming computers, reverse engineering software, open source software, game modding, learning new programming languages, attempting game programming (Can never seem to settle with 1 idea), Women and all their splendor, Silence, Isolation, Reminding authority that they're people too, Movies, Metal (The musical kind), Martial arts, Horses, Farming, Taking long walks (10+ miles sometimes up mountains), biking (same distances as walking), and listening to people who talk more then me so I don't have to embarrass myself.

If you like to talk, need someone to geek out with, want a gaming friend who is entirely selfless and will watch your back. I'm your aspie. The only things I give second thoughts about are web camming and voice chat because that's about as awkward as a face to face conversation for me >.> just saying..

I doubt anyone will respond to this message but I figure it's a shot. Kind of funny thinking about it because if any of you are like me then you would not actively try to contact someone out of fear of not reaching them or just looking stupid somehow at the attempt of reaching out to someone for friendship (At least thats what I do anyway >.>).

Hi there, i'm Geoff, 25 years old from Connecticut, US. Looking to find some new friends to talk to. I was diagnosed with AS last year, my social skills aren't very good but I do try without feeling down with myself. I'm a technology kind of guy, into computers, tablets, etc, I like kayaking in summer, going to New York City every couple months, photography and video games.

So if you want to be my friend (and I can sure use one or a few right about now), feel free to contact me, i'm available to talk just about anytime since I mostly am alone each day staring at a computer screen wishing someone would just appear. I just want to rid myself the loneliness that surrounds me.
