Social Life?

I've got one good friend in my hometown. I see him every week to ten days (works full time, has a family.)

Other that, Nada, zilch.

I tend to go out as much as I humanly can - even if it's going out for a coffee and whatnot.
Maybe I'll meet someone interesting to talk with!

My social life....What social life?

There's the bad joke of the century!

I have no social life to speak of. Sadly, I lost the few friends I had during the past year.

One reason is I have relatively little in common with what interests most people.

Something I have noticed is most people when together talk about their work and family. I also notice other common topics of conversation are sports, politics, television, pop culture, and current music. I can't really say much in many conversations because:

A- I am unemployed at present. I have been for some time.

B- I don't have a family (wife, children).

C- I don't like sports so I don't follow them.

D- I don't talk politics. I have tried and most people ignore me or think I am wonky.

E- Regarding the telly, I don't watch it hardly at all. My personal opinion is that
I find most popular shows, stupid, idiotic and banal at best. I would rather push
a pea up Vesuvius with my nose than be hypnotised by the idiot box. I haven't
followed telly in years so I hardly know what shows are on and what they
are about. In fact I don't even own a telly anymore. On the rare
occasion I do watch a programme it is a DVD on my computer. To bad I don't live in the
UK as I could save the £131.50 per year TV License fee, especially in light of an
upcoming 3% increase.

F- I don't follow pop culture, espcially Hollywood, as I find that
lifestyle to be naff. I could care least about what star married whom,
cohabited with whom, or committed adultery with whom. I also don't care who got
busted for using dope or driving under the influence. I hear enough of that
listening to the news.

G- I can not stand Sci-Fi.

H- As for music my interests are strictly classical music and
Big Band/Swing with some occasional folk. I haven't been familiar with the pop scene
since mid 1994 when I graduated high school (boarding school). That was
primariliy because I had roomates who played a radio/stereo almost 24/7. I
could not help but hear the pop music.

As a result when I visit my sister and her family, and my young niece and nephews mention a pop singer, I go 'Who?' My opinion of pop music is similar to my above opinion of telly. I especially detest rap and heavy metal.

Sadly, and I know to my disadvantage, I have absolutely no patience for talking about or listening to people talk about things that are of no interest to me. In fact if I am placed in a situation like this I begin to even have anger and anxiety build up inside until I feel sick and leave.

As for malls, shopping centers, kiosks, etc, I generally try to avoid these types of places as they are over stimulating. However, if the only place that sells something I need is located in one of these places I have to grin and bear it but I am exhausted for several hours after I get home. I feel the same way after going to a supermarket to shop. I especially avoid these places like the plague on Friday evenings through Sunday. However, the worst of the worst for me, a place I flat refuse to go in to any time is a shop called Shoe Carnival. There are a gazillion flashing, scrolling type lights, loud music playing, lots of people and an employee talking carnival style usually announcing a special sale or raffle of some sort. Even my father, who was in the Air Force (certainly around lights and noise) and is NT can't stand this shop for similar reasons.

Anyway, my social life stinks right now.

If you would like, feel free to send me an email or PM. I may set up an IM soon as well. I am very lonely so this would be appreciated.

Something that some people need to keep their minds intact. I have none in my area. One or two distant friends who I hardly meet, and that's about it. In fact, my social life has always been at a minimum.

My social life predominantly revolves around my local pub and drinking. I'm a regular in there, so everyone knows me. :)

Got a small group of friends I've known for years. I'm happy with that as I'm comfortable with them and I don't trust anyone else.

I haven't had any friends since school. Mum and dad say I need to get out there and make friends, engage more socially. I don't understand how or why I would go about doing that. I have a few work colleagues I am friendly with, and that's more than enough for me.

The only person outside of my family I have a close connection with is my boyfriend. He and I chat every day for a few hours (we're long-distance, and have been together for 8 years).
Other than him, I have a small hand full of online contacts I consider to be friends, though I don't connect 100% with them all the time, but I am kind of a loner, so I don't need a whole lot besides my boyfriend. I am open to meeting new people if they seem interesting to me, but it's rare I meet others that I click well with.

Also worth noting, for some reason, many bipolar people (and individuals with nonspecific elevated mood swing issues) seem to wind up befriending me. :) I don't even know why. I'm not even bipolar myself. Just something about me seems to be likeable to the brain-chemically-imbalanced. Maybe cause I find them and their perspectives less boring and predictable than what I usually expect from people, and something about me encourages their quirky side more, because I am quirky myself.
Sadly, my friendships with these types of people are usually the shortest, due to their fast changing natures.

Slowly progressing after a long time in the wilderness figuring necessary things out, before that was a sparse land with a few dots here and there whilst I was behind the undiagnosed veil all my life.

Describe your social life.

Non existent, but that's not a problem.

Same. The vast majority of my social interaction is done through the RJ45 network cable plugged into my PC.

WTF is a social life anyway?

I could talk to rocks & be considered to have a social life.

If we are talking about specifically interacting with other humans, then my social life is;

"Help me with this."
"Do this for me."
"You're such a***hole for not doing things for me."

Need I go on...?
