This thread seems to me to be an example of Pissy Guy A battling with Pissy Guy B to see who can be Top Pissy Guy King-of-the-Hill.

It's more like one of those threads that rationally might have been locked without a reply, but it's not significant in any way, shape or form.

I'm here because I'm bored of all this condescension from strangers. Yeah, I'll say it again, I'm disappointed in both of you. It seems like you're purporting to set an example for young autistic people without practicing what you preach.

To Fnord and cberg:

Please take this p!ssing match to private messaging.

To the both of you: If you don't like this thread, then why read it or even post in it? Who set you up as the Official Arbiters of Forum Content, anyway? Use the Report button, FGS!

This thread started out as a minor rant on my part, and became construed as a personal attack (for reasons unknown) on cberg's part. Then you two joined in and condemned the both of us (again, for reasons unknown).

Back off, please. If cberg wants to dig a hole for himself, then let him dig. As for me, if you have a specific complaint, then take it up with the mods.

To the Mods: WTH? Is this "Pick on Fnord Week?"

And as a general subject for public discussion, that's a perfectly good theme for a thread, just as Fnord's theme about cold-shouldering people is. I know that I can be a bit haughty sometimes, so maybe it would be good for me to be reminded how it feels to be on the receiving end! If some of the folks who you feel behave in that way find a little more empathy for having read the other side of the story, all's good. Otherwise, you're just flaming, and whether your disagreement with Fnord is justified or not, there were other people interested in this thread who did nothing to deserve the disruption.

But unlike when Fnord made this thread (if we assume that your allegations are correct), you've now rather spoiled your plausible deniability that any new thread on the subject of condescension isn't an attack on him!

However, I really didn't mean to condemn anybody. Usually when someone tries to engage me in a fruitless back-and-forth, I bow out. There are times when I can't pick up on someone's themes. There are also times when I don't make a lot of sense, myself.

Why do you think you get a say in whether somebody else's thread is locked? You're not a moderator, and unless you can point to specifically what rule was broken, you're best off staying away from threads you simply dislike.

This topic is about certain behavior, observed in many different circumstances, that seems to puzzle and annoy the thread author.
For some reasons, one of the contributors found it personal... and showed exactly the behavior in question.

However, the original question seems very interesting for me to discuss.

^ Likewise. I was particularly intrigued by Bender's (much!) earlier comment about the way that cold-shouldering spreads in groups. I've had in the past a couple of situations where the the person doing the "ignoring" has apparently employed one or more "gophers" from their peer group to relay the "you're being ignored" message. I guess in part so that they can maintain the pretence that they really aren't interacting, but I suppose that the exercise of power over the "gophers" plays a big part too.

Anyway, an extreme example of my original point was when a female shipmate walked up to me, turned her back toward me, and then announced "I'm ignoring you". I shrugged and went back to work. "Hey! I said I was ignoring you!" Again, shrug/work. This type of thing went on for a few days. Why? I never did ask for an explanation.

LOL ... she was hitting on you. Not very effectively, but still.

Anybody has a say in what threads get locked. Not a final decision, but a say.

Who made you the boss of everybody else in the forum, anyway? You're not a moderator, and unless you can point to specifically what rule was broken, don't order other people around.
