I think that the whole emphasis people put on friendship is somewhat overrated. By friendship I don't mean popularity, which is HUGELY overrated, but have people close by that actually like you, and you can actually stand them. There are so many so-called friends out there who either turn out to be unbelievable jerks, or end up having to walk out of your life forever, promising to stay in touch which they almost never do.
Anyway I've created a poll. It's my first one, so I'm not sure how it will turn out. But, here it is. ![]()

I don't see a poll....
And non of the people you mentioned are true friends. Having real friends is very important. Not trusting anyone ever will just lead you to paranoia and depression/bitterness. Everybody needs somebody to talk to and feel good around. Even if it's just one person. People who end up as jerks or such are not people you want around in the first place.
People have bad experiences all the time. The immature people shut down and refuse to try anything again because of one or two times something went wrong. The mature ones reflect and learn, and then move on and try again.
