You can feel just as alone in a crowded room,

a chat room, a dungeon with clan-members in tow.
Building a social network? More Myspace, Facebook? More WoW?

Bertrand Russel offers the solution:
That man is the product of causes which have no provision of the end they were achieving, that his origin, his growth, his hopes and fears, his loves and is beliefs are but the outcome of accidental collocations of atoms that no fire, no heroism, no intensity of thought and feeling can preserve an individual life beyond the grave that all the labors of the ages, all the devotion, all the inspiration, all the noon-day brightness of human genius are destined to extinction in the vast death of the solar system. And the whole temple of man's achievement must inevitably be buried beneath the debris of a universe in ruins. All these things, if not quite beyond dispute, are yet so nearly certain that no philosophy which rejects them can hope to stand. Only within the scaffolding of these truths, only on the firm foundation of the unyielding despair can the soul's habitation henceforth be safely built.

So apparently, the intelligent answer is - build your life on unyielding despair.

...life is not pointless, meaningless, and bleak unless you make it so.

30 year old female on top of a cold unforgiving mtn. in the outskirts of Denver, Colorado, good ole U S of A.

Would really like to chat with other people, but find it really hard to do so.

I honor all

Loneliness is a crowded room, full of open hearts turned to stone, all together, all alone...

Build your life on unyeilding despair? He's actually asking people to be unhappy, just so that their efforts won't end up forgotten?

Hitler has been remembered for a long time. But I still wouldn't be Hitler. I'd rather be useful and good and forgotten, than evil and remembered. Yes, the chances are the universe will end some day, but to be frank, we either won't be alive to see it or we'll die in the process, and would we want to end our lives realising we've barely lived, and wasted them being miserable? The sky, the cold winter air, the smell of pine-trees, laughter... they're all blessings, even if they do not last, even if people fail to notice them. My hope is to be remembered by the people I have known and loved as long as they live. After that, there is no point in being remembered. My perception of that statement is that it is just another way of wanting to live after death, to live in a ghost of a memory. Inspiration and new-day brightness will fade and die, so people should appreciate it while they can. Everything ends.

I'd love to live on the top of a cold, unforgiving mountain. Constant cold and snow and dizzying heights - sounds perfect for me.

I'm Rosie. I'm 18, and come from England. Nice to meet you :)
