He's an older guy who lives with my mom's friend. Anyway it was the first time I'd ever been around someone who had the same condition as me. Well I decided I'd go out with them.

It was strange, I really did feel like I was around someone whom I could relate to and this guy was like 40 or something. All my life I thought it was just me whenever someone talked over me or got ignored when asking a question. I saw the same crap happen to him and made sure he was being heard in the group. A lot of what he had to say was much more interesting than the people around us. We were in down town Kansas City and he'd talk about the history behind the buildings as we passed them by.

I don't know, I just thought it was strange and him and I were the only ones really talking to each other. Everyone else was just chitchatting. I don't think they were purposely being asses but it's the same kind of crap I go through whenever I'm out with anyone. For the first time in my life I didn't feel alone and it was incredible how smart this guy was. It really changes my perspective on people.

Just thought I'd share this.

That's great that you met a like-minded friend. We look forward to hearing more about it.

I like your description of how people are!... it's so true.

It is a bit interesting to be around someone else that's an aspie. My best friend is, so that always leads to some interesting conversations.

However it is a bit tough when you're out somewhere, got him along - and there's NT's you recognize there. He tends to ramble on and on about whatever his interests are, hasn't quite learned how to flow with a conversation.

I've met several Aspies before, and know three of them quite well. Two of them I count as good friends. We have very similar thinking patterns, and enjoy each other's company. We don't have to pretend around each other, which is quite liberating.

Far more people have Aspergers than one assumes. Even people who appear successful often have Aspergers.
